The Witcher 2 Trailer

There's a debut trailer from The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings on GameTrailers.com, showing off cinematics from the action/RPG sequel in development at CD Projekt RED. The clip shows everything you could want in a game, from combat to dissolving clothing (thanks Joker961). Also, The Witcher Website is now adorned with a giant 2, presumably related to the sequel (thanks Big Download).

I don't get it.

I don't dislike the game...I just couldn't get into it.

Many people have told me that it gets great like 10 hours in...but why would I play that long if I'm not having fun?

I'll probably reinstall (a fourth time) to give it another try - but I don't know when. Too many games I enjoy already on the HD right now.

I liked this game alot and hope CD Projekt RED can get it together but..............

The biggest problem with The Witcher is it doesn't feel like your character, becasue it's not. You are forced to play someone whom does and says things you wouldn't, it's a bad choice for an RPG style game. You couldn't choose female, couldn't adjust you appearance, nothing.

Secondly at least in the first game they spent so much time trying to be this false Neutral, it emotionally detaches us from the game, just like playing Geralt. Many of the quests and solutions didn't feel real, like the two main girls struggle to win Geralt or the first major quest with Abigail. She and Geralt had some of the most touching heartfelt dialog through acting writing and animation. By the 3 or 4 chapter the BEST QUEST in the game was totally crapped on and thrown away, all for the sake of FALSE choices with the two FORCED romantic leads.

Hell, all they had to do was make us a new Witcher in training whom was out to discover or possibly save Geralt (from some kind magical torpor?). Then all of Geralt's old/previous alliances would/could still be relevant. Then you could not only infuse Geralt's past but build start your own.

Should have just named the game Geralt the Action game.

Damn I guess this will finally give me a reason to upgrade my aging computer. I don't like the makeover they given Geralt, hopefully they change it back to his original style from the first, and the voice actor doesn't sound the same, but that's most likely because they haven't found a publisher yet so they didn't sign on the original actor. Besides that, I cannot wait for the game, looks to be better in every way.

Also, the reason the Witcher is linear is because of the storyline itself. You aren't chosen to save the world like in Dragon Age or Mass Effect. Geralt is a wanderer and takes whatever comes his way basically. It would make no sense to have an open-world game with the Witcher, it would contradict the entire story and backstory of Geralt.

And yes, I have read both novels.

I've heard so many great things about the first one, I bought it pretty early on, tried getting into it multiple times and just can't. The interface angers me, the combat is so very repetitive, and the world far too linear. I don't mean to crap on the game, I can see why other people might enjoy it, but I guess it's just not for me.

Couldn't have said it better myself. The interface/combat dynamics just seemed more about finger gymnastics than smooth, intuitive movements (in hindsight, perhaps a gamepad would have helped). I really wanted to like the game. Hopefully 2 will streamline the combat dynamics a bit more to my liking. I did enjoy the setting of the game, and the storytelling.

I liked the first game, but I hope this one really pushes it farther.

As interesting as the game was in regards to some aspects, there were a lot of other fairly blatant limitations (combat, weapons, quest bugs, peculiar story scripts, etc.)

The first game was really just a city romp with a quick visit to a local lake - if nothing else, they need to open up the world. Making it more dynamic and varied would be a bonus, too.
The game was very linear and repetitive with some crude mechanics.

Looks good. I really enjoyed the gameplay, inventory system, talent system, and combat; so this cinematic is icing on the cake.

I wonder if I can import my Witcher profile?

All I can say is FUCK YES!

The first one was one of the best damned games I have played on PC in a long time. Was so refreshing to play something that was developed for PC only. Now I just hope the US release is uncensored at launch.

Seriously looking forward to this.

Tom Ohle on The Witcher forums states that they are aiming for a Q1 2011 release. http://www.thewitcher.com/forum/index.php?topic=28192.msg5395587#msg5395587
