Out of the Blue

Today marks the start of this year's college basketball "March Madness" that annually grips the nation. This means I will spend the next couple of weeks not filling out brackets, not rooting for anyone, and not watching any games, as the appeal of collegiate athletics is lost on me.

Its no shock to me, just like in the pros, the best college athletes are bought and paid for...but as someone who works closely with college athletics, I see the heart that most of these athletes play with, and its just refreshing, especially when comparing the NBA with college ball.

Well, the "bought and paid for" is part of my problem. I like my pros to admit to being paid. I also don't like the mix-and-match nature of the sport that has future NBA superstars dunking over political science majors in some cases. Finally, one more problem for me is not paying enough attention to pick out any players to root for... Maybe if Brooklyn College makes the NCAA tournament one year I'll watch.
