MW2 Stimulus Package Details

The Xbox LIVE Marketplace now has details on the upcoming "stimulus package" map pack to be released as DLC for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, which will be released for the 360 before other platforms. Word is: "The Stimulus Package delivers 5 additional action-packed multiplayer maps featuring a variety of locations: "Bailout," a multi-level apartment complex; "Storm," an open industrial park littered with heavy machinery; "Salvage," a snowy junkyard fortified by stacked debris and crushed cars. Two legendary fan-favorites from Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare return, including "Crash," a war-torn urban environment; and "Overgrown," which features a massive dry creek bed." I just can't read the abbreviation MW2 and not think Mech Warrior for a second or two
I have the same issue. It bugs me that people won't just write COD:MW2.

MW2 is and always will be MechWarrior 2.

The map editer will be $50 and they will sue you for copy write if you share your maps. Hehe

I read that 25 million unique player have tried MW2 online.
That's a potential return of $375,000,000 for the Stimulus (ripoff) Package or 75 mil per map.

Most developers throw in a map pack with a patch as a reward for supporting them and everyone has the same maps at once.

Activision / Infinity Ward just seem to want to alienate the people who don't want to play the, give us more money game.

Is there a map editor for MW2? It'd be cool to have some home made maps. Don't know how that would work with IWNET though. Crap.
No there isn't.

I actually like the fact that they don't allow map filters. If they do, eventually everyone ends up playing 1-2 maps because the majority of players refuse to play maps where they don't know like the back of their hand. I hate to see the community end up playing de_dust 99% of the time. There are times when the developer knows whats best for the game than the consumer.

Absolutely agree. It didn't take me long to get over the fact that you can't choose what map to play, generally I like them all, and if I'm not in the mood for one I just find another server. From a design point of view, I think it was a good decision.
I think the de_dust scenario is a pretty extreme example. Many have favorites in COD4, but most servers have a decent rotation and variety of maps.

I don't agree that a popular game like MW2 should take away the vast majority of choices end users typically have in an online shooter. We're not 4 year olds that need handheld into our virtual experiences. This communistic implementation in a title like this is disconcerting and I hope it doesn't catch on. Judging from it's vast unworthy success, they really don't have any motivation to change. And that's thanks to all the drones that flock together and show that this is somehow acceptable.

$15 for 5 maps? Hah! It's $15 for 3 maps, folks. 2 of them are copy-paste rehashes from CoD 4.

I couldn't believe that when I read it this morning.

The only upside to this is Activision doing it's best to destroy its own cash cow...

Maybe I'm reading this wrongly, but if this expansion is being released on X-Box ahead of other platforms as some kind of Microsoft-sponsored "exclusive" early release, I'm completely bewildered.

Those kinds of deals are somewhat understandable for a new game, but for an expansion? It's not as if anyone who bought the game on PS3 is going to rush out and buy the X-Box version too so they can get the new levels earlier.

Weird. Really weird.

Are they likely to charge for the PC map versions?
I'm sure they would like to try.

Yes it is MY game. Spare me your legal bullshit and unless you work for Ubisoft I see no reason for you pointing that out.

No map selection is atrocious game design, and that was kind of my point.

Keep in mind that Chinatown, Killhouse, Creek, and Broadcast were average at best. Hell, Creek and Killhouse were pieces of shit.

Those 4 maps were free on PC, but those average maps and other pieces of shit cost 360-ers $10. You think these Modern Warfare 2 maps will be any better? Yeah right.

I'm honestly more excited about Crash and Overgrown than the new maps. I don't particularly dislike MW2's maps, but, possibly just because of the nostalgia filter, the originals always seem a bit better. I hope they keep adding them back in.

I loved Crash in COD4, but I don't think it's going to work well in MW2. The problem is the weapon balance has changed and the map has too many choke points to deal with Danger Close Explosives. On team based gametypes, I'm already imagining the damage that can be done with a Launcher with OMA and DC perks.

Maybe they'll make it only have the same gametypes as Rust.

I think it will be amusing if they leave the game as is and release these. You can't choose which map you play, and the only maps people will want to play are the new ones but you have no choice. Such a silly design choice by the dev's to "streamline" our game.

It's not your game, and odds are you will be able to choose to play only the new maps...

So you're gonna buy a Wii?

The XBOX is getting it before, not "only". They'll come to the PC as well.

I'm looking forward to these maps, both the oldies and the new ones.
