Mass Effect 2 Paid DLC Next Month [Mar 11, 2010, 8:41 pm ET] – Share – Viewing Comments
Kasumi's Stolen Memory is the name of the first DLC for Mass Effect 2 to be released outside of the Cerberus Network, reports Joystiq, saying this will be released on April 6 for Windows and Xbox 360. Word is BioWare is in the midst of an "internal discussion" to determine a price for this. They offer a brief description: "After downloading the DLC, players can get in touch with Kasumi on the Citadel, either in the middle of an ongoing Mass Effect 2 game or after the completion of the main story (lesson learned from Mass Effect 1 DLC!). Once recruited, Shepard aids Kasumi on a secretive mission of recovery, which requires a suave disguise and a run-in with an influential and predictably corrupt art collector. The content, which also provides the "Locust" SMG, a flash-bang grenade loyalty power and a new Achievement, should take about an hour and a half to complete."
Why? What does this have to offer the game? Isn't this too late?
This game could definitely do with a wide range of tweaks (to say nothing of a deep story,) but a 1.5 hour long DLC isn't the way to go.
And if 1.5 hours is the estimate, does that really mean 45 minutes?

It better only be like 2 bucks. Hour and a half isnt really much.
I think it would be better to add content to the whole planet scanning "minigame". Make that more fun/less annoying and people will want to play through the game again. Seems like all that time planet scanning was a total waste, nothing enjoyable about it. Fix that.

I assume the DLC will be $5. Usually game companies over-estimate how much time it takes to complete something, so it's probably one hour long, not 90 minutes. So $5 for an hour. Not a good deal to me since you can get the full game, used, for $30. And that's 20-25 hours of gameplay.

I'll be honest; planet scanning is why I quit playing this game before finishing it. I had enough desire to "do everything" before finishing the main quest, but not enough desire to scan all the planets to do it.
Well i am sure the mission will be feature rich, but i agree, thats not really the kind of DLC that has *any* pull. If its 1$ or 1.99$ then maybe (maybe), But if they go for 5$ or even 5€ (which is more like 8$) then this is a no sale.
New characters via DLC also have the problem that Kasumi won't be recuring in ME3.. so whats the point, really?

ME2 was utter genius, I don't really care what DLC they release, I am buying it.

Different mediums, different standards. An 800 page book will keep the reader busy for a lot more than 2 hours yet such books are usually cheaper than watching a movie at the theater.
If you pay $50 for a game that lasts you 40 hours, that's $1.25 per hour. If one DLC for the game lasts an hour and a half, the relative value is about $2. Everything is relative.
Of course they could just finish the game in the first place, you know at release.
Sure, at least they healthy sodas coke and pepsi but they also have chocolates which are Fair Trade.
The REASON games usually have a Long Term fan base is because of Coop and/or an editor to mod with, not shit content releases.

Bull. The full game is only 20-25 hours if you rush through it. Do any of the extra missions and you get a whole boatload more hours, which are in no way "filler" hours. I challenge anyone to get ME2 and play it in 25 hours and not know with absolute certainty that there's a whole lot more they skipped just so that they could see the end cinematic.

Because I had very bad experiences in this aspect of the gme in the previous part (completed it after about 10 hours), I developed a phobia in ME2. I absolutely made sure that I get every sidemission and explore every planet. I completed the game in 45 hours that way. The sidemissions werent really good, because they were extremely short and straightforward, but to be fair, they were far better than the ones in the first part.
I have given up on waiting for BIS to come back to their senses and do a real ArmA 2 successor.

I'm sorry your world ends over $5 but I piss that away on coffee every day. Many devs are still trying to find a balance with a DLC, it's still a very new revenue model for the industry and it will take time to get it right for consumers. Horse Armor buddy, we've come a long way.
The game is 28 hours at 100% completion and yes, i played everything (ie 100%) nothing unexplored, no mission not done ;p and 20 (or less) at the second playthrough which is worth to do simply to see all the renegade options ;p
But this time was better spent than any movie...
So at rough 50 hours the value was plenty worth it, for me anyhow, if you bought this however and rushed through, not enjoying the scenes, the nightclubs, and the whole atmosphere then i pity thee.
And that said i replayed the game 3 times because the female shep was just too good to pass up ;p

Sorry but I'm a bit skeptical at your figures there. 100% completion on ME2 at 28 hours doesn't even seem remotely possible for a first run unless you're playing on Easy.

So just so I understand you correctly, you are claiming you have done all loyalty missions, all N7 missions, all story missions and every possible sidequest in 28 hours?
That took me 52 hours on my first run on Veteran. I'm sorry but I am calling internet exaggeration on this one, you would've had to skip every single line of dialogue in the entire game and your combat sequences would've needed to run in fast forward

One day ill learn to wait for the damn extended editions of games with all the DLC and patches on one disk. In about a years time ME2 goty/SE will come out with all the extras for $10 less then what I paid for the game on release.
