Battlefield: Bad Company 2 Ships, Day One Patch Released

Battlefield: Bad Company 2 is now available in North American stores, announces Electronic Arts, quoting Game Informer saying the military shooter sequel "rightfully challenges Modern Warfare for the multiplayer crown." Word is: "Battlefield: Bad Company 2 has received worldwide acclaim for its intense first-person modern warfare, spectacular destructible environments and seamless multiplayer experience supported by dedicated servers." Also, the Electronic Arts UK Community Forum has word that they've already released a day one patch (thanks LittleMe), saying: "It's slightly less than 300MB in size. Assorted fixes, some perf improvements, fov controllable via Settings.ini (fov=55 default I think) and um some other things. More info later, it would be nice with some sleep now."

I think that's because the foliage isn't destructible. Rendering a destructible building may require a decent amount of CPU to determine what part(s) are damaged, etc. Also I think the urban environs have more polygons, objects, textures, etc..

The two jungle levels I played are like Crysis level of graphical quality, the improvement over beta there is insane. What's really odd is that my FPS performance in those levels is higher than some of the levels that look worse and don't contain much foliage.

Have some crashing issues with server and client....seems to be wide spread regardless of the server.

Other than that.
Hit boxes are way tight compared to BETA.
Game is beautiful.
Runs awesome.
Lighting is amazing.
Flying is fun again.
Communication (voice) is kinda crap.
Great maps - just beautiful.
Everything about the game is pretty damn sweet.
The only thing it carried over from BETA was my knife kills.

5 hours solid.
Need some sleep.

Since then it's been clear sailing.

Yeah that sailing map is awesome. Most people haven't seen it yet. Great unlock. Took me about two hours to sail the whole course.

So far BC2 seems to be one of the better fps's released lately. There's a lots of graphics config options, and even since the beta they threw in a lot more things people wanted to control in game. FOV still requires a config edit, but it's not a big deal unless your one of those super picky people. FOV is set to 55, but that's vert which gives you like 70something degree's. I put mine to 75 which = about 90 degree's and it's really nice at 1900x1280.

I played through the single player so far, havn't gone online due to not having much time, but if it's anything like the beta it will be a blast. Since everyone compares it to MW1/2 there are a lot of things in the two games that are close. What I will say about BC2 is that it feels a lot more open. You really are on a path, but the levels just have a more open and grand feeling about them. Closer to crysis on the first few levels in terms of scale and focus. There's also a really open level in the middle that kinda screams "see if we wanted to we can make the whole game like this"(in terms of open/free world)
Munching On: FF14 storyline, SAO PS4, Horizon.

Run as Admin will make it work, even though you shouldn't have to do that.

My friend gets ping, I don't. We both run as admin on win7 64. Not a big whoop, the G15 keyboard shows ping, and you can build a list of favorite servers. W00T.

And yes, I knew there was single player, and I will get to it. But the multi feels SOOO much better than anything I've touched in the last couple of years.

There is single player??

Assuming that is not sarcasim....there is, and it seems like it is similar in length to the SP from BC1, which was pretty good length on the 360.

You can check the achievements for the 360 and see how many chapters there are, and the chapters in BC1 were substantial in size, and LOTS of space to roam. Lots of open land to run and gun, goof aorund with etc. (there was an obvious POINT to get to in each map, but there was MANY ways to do it. Fight through the beast, sneak around, front door, back door, etc.)

Woudl have been awesome to have coop for the SP out of the box....maybe a DLC later or something.

Correct. It was mentioned early in the game development so it's not new. I actually like prone in earlier BF games.

Verno - -that is kind of weird, I wonder if they are switching the servers for a given client based on need on their end dynamically instead of user controlled......interesting.

Yeah I think you're right, they're probably using GeoIP to set the content servers individually. It's kind of a pain for big releases like this though where you want to change it to somewhere obscure that no one is using so you can get a fast download

Are the graphics better than the demo's? I think I read the demo doesn't use higher textures or something? What else is better over the beta?

Graphically it always looked great to me but I run the game on high with full AA and etc. Hit detection is hugely improved, weapon damage on many of the weapons was upped 25%, uhhh what else lets see. 10 maps, Conquest modes are more fun than Rush to me personally but the other Rush map I've seen so far was much better than Valdez. The netcode itself is much better, the server browser is vastly more functional and you can filter categories and stuff like usual now. There's more but that's all I can remember offhand. Performance, hit detection and netcode were the things I noticed right away, they were very shaky in beta.

Its worth $50 Ant and I don't drop $50 on an EA game without seriously evaluating it first I'm just getting my server setup with a host now as well.
Cool. I have more interest in this game then. I want to see what others say. $50 is still expensive. I am waiting for sales.

I'm looking for PC centered reviews. I want anyone to review it in comparison to PC game FPS standards, not console FPS standards. I know there is no lean, no prone, no publicly released dedicated servers, and no mod tools.
