Aussie R18+ Debate Hysteria

Gamers-Underground.com has an outrageous clip from an Aussie news report that unequivocally states "Gaming causes more harm than smoking," claims that in "Modern Warfare: Call of Duty 2" (in case you were wondering about their level of fact-checking) "gamers plot terror attacks against civilians," and says "psychologists say that regular exposure to games like these actually rewires a child's brain making them more amenable to violence." It's official: The Aussie R18+ debate is generating more BS than a cattle ranch.

I got Wolf3d when I was a 6 year old, then Doom soon after. I'm not a violent person, but hey the studies are always right....

Somethings go too far for young minds, but this isn't about young mind. If you're over the age of 18 and you think it's a-ok to rape because a computer game lets you do it... then my friend you're far more fucked up then a simple act of taking away games could deal with.

I was 17 when I played Wolfenstein 3D when it came out. I think I turned out to be a contributing member of society. It sounds to me some people are just wired for violence. Video games, films, books, and music bubbles it to the surface.

you people are bling and foolish and nearly all of your brains have been warped by this junk yourselves. why is "adult" content always, sex, rape, murder, debauchery etc?

Maybe you can help clear up our "blingness." Can you explain why those topics should be *excluded* from adult content? They haven't been shown to harm children in the first place, but even if they have been, how could they cause harm to children by being used by adults?

Ever stop to even think for a second that maybe "adult" content should be love, kindness, respect, self-control, self-sacrifice and other similar trates?

Ever stop to think that I should be able to make decisions about my own life without the supervision of the government, or having to accommodate the religious convictions of those such as yourself?

In other words, exactly what gives you the right to tell someone else what to do?

I was thinking of moving to Australia one day, but the more I read of the ridiculous censorship politics there, the less I want to move.

yeah cause you know playing games where you rape, murder, kill, steal, assasinate, do drugs and the like is such a posative thing to do. and causes so many posative images to be floating around children and teens heads.

So heck yeah, why care about all the school violence, violence against parents, shootings, foul language, harshness etc of todays youth why should anyone care about silly stuff like School shootings every week anyway.

All of the supposed "adult" content is being put into games that 9-14 year olds play and watch at the movies and listen to in music hour after hour and day after day.

and you foolish people think this will have no effect at all.

Do I sense this is touching a nerve Blue? You're normally very impartial. I don't blame you, it's an insult to my intelligence and my hobby and I'm sure others here feel the same.

When you live in a land down under all that blood rushing to the brain is bound to cause some problems.

Heheheh. At least they can still have centerfire guns. The UK had to pass an exemption to hold the summer olympics in 2012 because some of the shooting sports are illegal there. The national shooting team actually has to leave the country to practice.

I like it. That's some pretty good, you can't be independent thinkers type stuff from the aussie government, to the point where people must be kept control of at all times. Makes me wonder if they'll be the first country in the world to develop a Prozium type drug and start giving it to people.

Man that video just makes me want to go out, slash someones throat from behind and dance in their fountaining blood while giggling like a school girl. Note the overflowing sarcasm there.

No, the SP campaign would have been more interesting if that was what the game was actually about.
