US residents who preorder Battlefield: Bad Company 2 from the
EA Store between now and February 25 will get a free copy of Battlefield
2142 as a bonus (this is not listed on the site, but it will show up in your
shopping cart). This makes three different perks now available for US preorders
besides a copy of the military shooter sequel: a free Limited Edition upgrade,
access to the game's ongoing beta test, and the free copy of Battlefield 2142
Deluxe.

More like 3 months ago but yeah, they did. You can see the differences in the console vs PC versions. The PC version was recently brought up to a newer build though and there were big performance increases.

The beta is great fun and the final version will feature - amongst other things - higher resolution textures and DX10/11 support for features like anti-aliasing and shadow maps. Some of the issues the game had have already been resolved and the game balance, although not perfect, is pretty decent (with the exception of C4). Certainly vehicles don't seem as overpowered as BF2.

At the very least, the latest patch has made it play far far smoother on Dual Core processors (as opposed to only smooth on Quad Cores).

I haven't been into an FPS since quake 1. I did enjoy BF2 a lot too, but Bad Company 2 is like a much faster paced BF2 to some degree.
If you liked the Quake series, give BC2 a shot, I friggen love the crap out of this beta. It's piles of fun!

i am an quake engine, wolf et, qw kinda guy. ive been looking for a new shooter. has anyone played both it and the quake engine games enough to say if it is something i may enjoy? ive seen the videos, and i have a 360.. but i dont realy play it much, so i havent gotten the demo.
Which game do you mean by 'it'? BF2142 or BF:BC2? I've played all the quake games and PC Battlefield games and enjoy them. Great games. 2142 is a great game, BF2 is great, BC2 is the most frenetic but it's fun. There is no demo out for PC yet, but there is a beta which is good.

Overall its a far better balanced game than BF2.

I've heard really nothing but good stuff about BFBC2, honestly. The only bad thing being the lack of prone, which I don't really care about.

That's not always the case. EA would rather sell it to you than have you go to Amazon or Gamestop because it cuts out the middle man and gives them higher profit margin. One of the ways they can try to get your business is adding another game, which costs them nothing and clears out their old stock.
