Software-rendered option runs like treacle, which doesn't matter as the D3D (Glide) option works just fine on my Vista machine.

Funkiest game ever made

Dunno who owns the rights. Guess that would be a problem. Oh well, it was a nice dream.

I hope GOG does get the old MechWarrior 2 and GBL expansion soon. I'd buy those again in a heartbeat.

Does Activision still own the rights to Mechwarrior? I thought Smith & Tinker bought them back.

So this is what I've experienced so far:

The graphics options have no real options that pertain to 3D rendering, just mostly 2D stuff.

Played it both on AMD hardware (5870) and Nvidia (Older 9800GTX+) and both have the exact same problem on two different machines. The road and the cars get this weird rainbow texture effect.

The 5870 is running Vista Ultimate 32 bit
The 9800GTX+ is running Windows 7 x64 professional

Very fun game with a very dark and violent ending. I remember this being so old as to see the wars between Voodoo 3dFX and Nvidia TNT cards. I think you had to have a 3DFX card to play the enhancements as it was the dominate card of the time.

Would like to hear more about what this version is capable of and compatibility.

Wasn't there a graphic update or something that took advantage of 3d cards?

There was, the gold edition I think it was called. It added 16bit textures, 3d support. Not sure if this version already has all the enhancements or not, or if it's even relative anymore.

Jebus, voodoo cards were around when this game was released.

Now if they'd just release the Mechwarrior 2 games.

BTW does the multiplayer work in this?

Maybe the Mech 2 games will be GOG's ultimate "blue-light" special of the sale.(fingers crossed)

No. There are several games on GOG, which do NOT work on Windows 7, but work on Vista. Like Gothic 1&2, Messiah, Sacrifice, ... mostly gpu driver related.

Do you guys think this would run on Windows 7? I noticed it says Windows XP and Vista 32/64-bit, but I know I've also heard Windows 7 is really good about running things in compatibility mode?

Works just fine. Same awesome gameplay that I remember.

Windows7 is same as Vista, so if Vista works, you are fine.

Also for the GoG released games, you don't have to tweak the compatibility settings. You run the downloaded executable, and the application is installed with any necessary emulators (like DOSBox) already pre-configured.
