Still waiting for a patch / solution to the infamous "stuttering" problem...

What can I say...

...So far I've progressed into the Alien campaign and tried some of the Predator campaign and it's merely adequate.

The marine campaign had its moments but fell really short of my expectations in terms of story and atmosphere. I never really felt like I had to shit my pants as I did with AvP1 and AvP2 and it reminded me to much of the (first) movie.

The Aliens controls are something which feels less intuitive than that from previous titles and, unless it's given later, I miss the ability to switch between the two viewing modes. Furthermore, what's up with the 'ability' to see humans through walls? Or the ability to see Combat Droids for that matter?

The Predator campaign, from what I've played, seems pretty good though. Nice and violent to boot.

The big issue I had with the Marine campaign is how the Aliens take sooooo much damage. Often times even a direct hit with the Grenade launcher will merely knock them down and they'll still be coming right for you. A well-placed shot from the Scoped rifle usually takes a single shot and as bad ass as the Pulse Rifle is, they really turned it into a pop gun.

This doesn't make me scared or add to the grim atmosphere, it's just annoying and takes away from the experience.

I'll step into Multiplayer eventually, once I finish the game.

At this point, I think it's the weakest of the three titles but I'm only ~50% done on Normal.

it reminded me to much of the (first) movie.

That was disappointing, if they want to reuse story ideas then they should have based it on the original graphic novel by Dark Horse Comics.

I am not overly impressed with this one, it is average at best. I enjoyed AvP2 much more than I am this one mostly because there is really no story going on. I'm playing through the Marine campaign and all I've been doing is unlocking doors and powering up lights and such...ZZZZZzzzz... The graphics are decent does anyone know which engine they are using? Anyways I'm hoping it gets better than this, I really do.

It's using Rebellion's in-house Asura Engine.

Just trying to get into a MP game is a chore, if you finally find one after 5-10 of searching, you will be 'connection timed out' nearly as much at least in my attempts

Bummer on the reviews I'm reading here as they seemed to really nail the graphics end of things from what I've seen.

How long was the marine campaign?

I'm actually having a good time with it. Sure it's not a classic like AVP99 but it's a solid, above-average game. The graphics are great, especially with advanced shadows, anti-aliasing and tessellation enabled. The controls for the alien can be a bit clunky, which is a shame, and the AI definitely falls down in places but it's very impressive considering Rebellion's appalling games of late. I really hope they stick with it and release a further game in the series to address the criticisms levelled at it. Well worth picking up if you can find it cheap or accept that it's not going to be perfect.

On a side note I'm impressed with how quickly DX11 is progressing. Already we have DiRT2, Call Of Pripyat, Aliens Versus Predator, Bad Company 2 and Battleforge. Not only that but games don't take anywhere near as much of a performance hit as with DX10 and they offer a lot more.

I love the game. It is everything 1999 was, and way way more. Rebellion did an amazing job of this AVP. But there are still a few bug fixe patches and optimizations to deal with. I hope we get a patch soon.

The Marine campaign, if I were to guess as I was not keeping track, was about five hours.

I still like the game, I probably just overhyped myself.

So how's the PC port (mouse and keyboard controls) for single player (mainly Aliens and marine campaigns) and multiplayer so far? I didn't like the multiplayer's deathmatch. I enjoyed the previous AvP games. Is marine campaign scary?

It's not really scary but then again maybe it's just that I'm older now and am a veteran of the first two titles and the expansion that it feels so routine now to a certain degree.

I felt the lead up and the introduction of the Aliens in the Marine campaign was not as nerve-wracking as that in AvP2.

I have played both the Xbox360 and the PC version and I have to say the PC version wins hands down. The graphics are good (Even on my old 8600GTS). The controls are fine though I really wish you could duck down or crouch in this game, that's my top issue with this release right now.

Friday should see the release of the beta dedicated server software, so hopefully that will have a positive effect on the PC MP community. The client btw. already has everything it needs to run with dedicated servers, including a server browser.

So far I'm not regretting this purchase, but I have simple taste these days.
