Bad Company 2 Mod Support "Out of the Question" at Release

There's a Battlefield: Bad Company 2 interview on BASHandSlash translating a German conversation with Patrick Bach from Gamestar magazine (thanks Joker961). They ask about a few absent features, with Patrick saying the following about co-op: "One of our game modes is squad deathmatch where four players fights against three other squads. Basically this is a coop mode where one fights against a 'superior' enemy. Kind of an online coop mode. And our focus is the online gaming." Of LAN support he says: "But it might be that we will offer this later." He also indicates the game will definitely not have mod support out of the box: "The player can change settings on the dedicated server but there won't be modding tools included in the retail game. The reason is the same as coop mode. That is, we decided to focus on other aspects because we want to achieve the highest levels of quality possible, rather than a buggy game with average gameplay but with modding possibilities. Theoretically we could still add mod support after release, we just don't know yet. But it's out of the question for the retail version."

Uhhh no. Burst firing will up your kill count ridiculously, spray and pray will get you torn up. The hit detection needs work for sure but I have no problems using smart burst fire to take people down. People who use spray and pray usually end up reloading while I still have more than a half a clip to kill them with if they aren't dead already.

The only problems i've noticed are from hip firing, ie not aiming. Your hits land on target when you aim, but the game does a terrible job communicating how horrible your accuracy is when not aiming. The reticle is there showing you where your shots should hit but in my experience it's basically worthless, i've had a guy 2 feet from me and i'm emptying a clip into him without aiming and he has enough time to turn, aim, and kill me. The hit detection in this respect is completely broken, but aiming hit detection is fine.

If they removed the reticle completely it would actually make things a lot easier to understand. But instead they put the weapon almost fully on screen plus a reticle giving you the impression that you have a good amount of accuracy when hip firing but it's like they're playing a big joke on you. There is almost no accuracy when firing from the hip.

The animation from firing the gun without aiming should look like random shots going in all directions because that is what you get in the game.

And sniping in this game is absolutely awesome. They really nailed it in my opinion, it's so rewarding to line up a shot, see the enemy fire at the same time you do and see him go down instead of u. (because he missed) There is almost no twitch shots involved, the range and location have to be carefully aimed and it's so damn fun to see someone firing at you while you stay focused and land a better shot, BOOM HEADSHOT!
