Ubisoft Sales Results

Ubisoft announces sales figures for the third quarter 2009-2010, which was October through December 2009 according to their financial calendar. Word is: "Sales for the third quarter of 2009-10 came to €495 million, down 2.7%, or 2.0% at constant exchange rates, compared with €508 million recorded during the same period of 2008-09. For the first nine months of fiscal 2009-10, sales totaled €661 million versus €852 million in the corresponding prior-year period, representing a decrease of 22.5%, or 22.1% at constant exchange rates. This performance is in line with the revised targets announced on January 13, 2010." They also announce they will roll out their controversial new DRM scheme in the coming months:
A platform of online services for PC titles offering gamers a more in-depth gaming experience as well as providing an innovative solution for reducing PC game piracy. The first games to benefit from this solution will be released in the coming months.

When will they announce that they will actually do proper quality assurance and support on their titles?

LOL! There are some pretty clever people on the internet!

Knowing the Steam forums, I'd bet that was removed pretty quickly.

someone posted the following over on the Steam forums:

I'm Andrew Ryan and I'm here to ask you a question.

Is a man not entitled to play a game on time that he legally paid for with the sweat of his brow?

"No," Says SecuRom "You will steal it."
"No," Says Games for Windows Live "You must activate when we say"
"No," Says Steam "You must wait till Tuesday 6 O'Clock, then download it while our severs are slammed with others doing the same thing resulting in you getting the game a day AFTER it's release date or worse"

But I rejected those answers. I choose....BITTORRENT.

You know what would be funny, if by trying to falsely blame their poor sales on pirates, they ended up pissing of pirates.

Their games mostly suck so no body is really gonna miss ubi, even if their games get pirated probably no one will want them, then who will they blame.

Nice corporate speak. How about detailing some real benefits....oh wait, there are none for the consumer?

I was going to buy Silent Hunter 5 until I found out about the DRM (due for release next month).

Some have pointed this out before and I agree: it has nothing to do with piracy and everything to do with an attempt to kill off the used game market.

The pirates will have it cracked in a jiffy. Meanwhile, I will wait until it's patched out, or it's a no sale.

Oh boy. The games are going to "benefit" from this solution. Whoopie!! They will most likely "benefit" from shitty sales as a result.

Yeah, sub-par, overpriced games aren't the problem, piracy is. LOL!

It may or may not reduce piracy, but one thing it will do for sure is reduce their sales. Because I know Im never going to buy another one of their games as long this type of DRM is present in any game.

Hahahaha. "In-depth gaming experience."

Translation: an Xbox 360 controller needs to be used on this badly ported title from the console with the lovely addition of many bugs that will remain unfixed.

Yeah, they'll "prevent piracy" by losing non-pirate customers like myself because of their "innovative solution". Something tells me their sales will decrease even more in the following quarters...

We already have this solution, it's called Steam. Ubisoft used it before, continue doing so.
