Stop Asking for BFBC2 Prone

A tweet by Battlefield Bad Company 2 lead designer David Goldfarb that's retweeted by the BFBC2 feed says that even if you stand on your head, they are not adding the ability to go prone in the military shooter sequel: "Fyi we will not add prone based on anything. You can stop asking now. :)"

Obviously this is exactly the kind of stubborn (feature) terrorist we need Jack Bauer for. Let's see how he holds up after we get him strapped to a chair with <insert TV invented torture technique here>. I bet he'll be begging to put prone in.

I know next to nothing about this game. I do however know that giving a negative answer to your potential customers is WAY better than giving no answer at all....

The game would be kind of a nightmare with prone in my opinion. Huge open battlefields with tons of foliage + a sniping class = people camping for points. They already do this but thankfully they can't go prone so you can actually have a prayer at killing them. The game is built around mobility and taking points so I don't see prone as hugely necessary personally.

If there's a sniper rifle in the game... there needs to be prone. I don't even like sniping much, but I see were this is coming from. Who would stay exposed when they can lay down to take objectives? Now I havn't played the game yet, but hearing no prone leans me towards the whole not buy side of the camps.

Totally agree with Verno, and, to be fair (plus also for my sins), I played alot of the original Bad Company on the xbox, and you get used to the pain of no prone after a while - its not like someone else is doing it but you're not. Maybe there are other things to bring up (like digital distribution sales not being included in sales figures...)...

as an edit : "Who would stay exposed when they can lay down to take objectives?"...Yes, but in BC1 atleast, there's plenty of vegetation cover, and I used to get people stand right next to me without being noticed.

The beta only has a single map but there are literally hundreds of spots to hide, many of them you are almost totally obscured. Rest assured, being a pain in the ass sniper in BC2 is totally intact. This is one of the few games where I think prone would actually be unfair. People would just camp for kills so they could get unlocks and given the design of the maps, being literally invisible and almost unkillable would be a possibility with it.

I am normally a fan of prone but based on the map I've seen so far, it wouldn't fit with this game.

if there was only room in the budget for either DRM or prone balancing, they obviously went with the option that made the most sense.

It is difficult at times to kill the snipers already - but the pace of the game doesn't really allow for prone.....it is an arcade console shooter....we just got thrown in late as a PC crowd...

Why strike it out? The game doesn't have lean either. Watch how the people are rushing to defend it though. The same ones who went ballistic when MW2 didn't have lean

I wouldn't call it arcadey, it's faster paced than a usual BF game but definitely a step up from Call of Duty.

Your posts and name combo are so fitting sometimes. I've attacked this game on several fronts already. I am defending this one decision because based on my experience from actually playing it, it makes sense.

Having played a lot of Battlefield, I tend to agree with Verno. It would turn into a sniping (bleep)-fest and you'd never have a prayer of finding the guy. BF is based on rushing and taking objectives. Sure, I supose they could limit the number of people playing any type of class, but then we'd all be calling it "America's Army 4."

Besides, there is plenty of cover to hide behind. Snipers are already hard as hell to find as it is. If I want gritty realism, I'd throw all these games away anyway and go with the latest patch-up of ARMA 2.

IMO.

They need to make crouch a toggle like prone was. That is my main gripe. Having to hold down the shift key or whatever key you use for crouch is annoying as hell. I can live with crouch only just fine...but make it a toggle just like prone was before.
