got a beta key a week ago and had some time to play it finally. away missions sound cool in theory but suck in practice thanks to the engine being shit. ship combat seems to be hitting 1 1 2 every 10 seconds rinse repeat, this is about the most boring experience i can imagine, uninstalling. if people actually pay money and play this then i really need to make an mmo company because wow, those are some pretty low standards.

I hear that man, sadly, immersion is about writing...mainstream gaming is about money. Genuine creativity isn't very cost effective these days, it's so much easier to buy the license to the latest snowball and rebox whatever genre is selling with the appropriate gfx.

Not digging the Star Trek Online beta at all.

Like many other MMO's its simply another pretty layer over the same old traditional numbers mechanics. This may be great for the true MMO geek who makes MMO's their life, all I want is a persistent game that immerses me into the universe the developers created. I don't want to have to read guides, pull out a calculator, hunt for specific classes to group with in order to get a raid done, etc. Even though Cryptic has managed to avoid the Fanatasy genere in MMO's, they are still just as traditional as Everquest, Ultima Online, D&D etc.

Planetside did a decent job of this. I know there's a few other MMO's that managed to do things differently but their names escape me at the moment.

STO = Epic fail like every other Cryptic game. I ground out the painfully boring missions to level 11 to get a new ship and see if things open up and get better from there...nope, same boring shit. It boggles the mind that there are people who seem to believe this is a good game. Oh well, I guess there really is no accounting for taste or how easily amsued some people are. These people are no different from a hamster on a treadwheel.

Well I beta tested it and won't touch it with a 10 foot pole myself.

It is just not a very good game in my opinion. Seems that there are too many people out there looking for the next best thing and don't realize yet this is not it.

Star Trek was about exploration and solving problems, fighting was only the last resort. There is none of that in this game, just fight after fight.

Just a waste of good money IMO.

Hell, I'd be all over Star Trek Online if it weren't an MMO. Same goes for The Old Republic. It seems that MMO's are commandeering the best game worlds and concepts lately, which makes me pretty sad.

@BubbleMage
DAMN! That was fucking harsh!

I have not seen much of the game myself, have you played it? What brings you to that conclusion, or are you just some kind of Star Wars fanboy?

... seems to be a lot of hype for Star Trek [Online]

Remember last year during the Superbowl, when Denny's advertised they'd give away breakfast to all comers for one day? And remember all the smelly, digusting, fat-assed, knuckle-dragging, mono-browed, pajama-wearing, toothless cultural flotsam that showed up to suck down the free swill? Those are the same people pre-ordering STO. I'd rather saw off my dick using a rusty butterknife, thanks.

Nice top 10, their seems to be a lot of hype for Star Trek. I'm going to wait till summer & jump in. hopefully by then all the major bugs are worked out. I would hate to see such a great IP fail, I hope it's a success.
