I played more for about two hours (took a few short breaks during long waits, etc.) last night before Jack Bauer showed up for his day 8.

I actually like this game. It wasn't bad! I got to explore space and ground bases (not bad controls and reminded me of Star Trek: 25th Anniversary and Judgment Rights), selected my bridge members (different types!), fly my a ship as an acting captain, fight the Borgs meelee and with guns, etc. I love the sounds. I think they even used the same female voice actress for the LCARS voices in TNG, TOS, etc.! Also, nice references to ST:E's Capt. John Archer and TOS' Sulu.

I hope I can play more next weekend before its beta end! I doubt I will get the final game due to annoying subscription and my very little time to play it (waste of $$ too!).

To the rest of the world, open beta means no NDA. Never has meant free access, never will. Chalk it up to the duality of the English language.

Really? In what alternate dimension is this the case? Here in what the rest of us like to call "reality", open beta has always meant it's open to all comers free of charge and the NDA has been lifted, otherwise it's still a closed beta that just happens to have the NDA lifted. This is just another in a long list of reasons why Cryptic sucks and needs to go away. They're incapable of making really good games so they do something more up their alley like making tax software or soemthing.

It is free - I just logged into my entirely free Fileplanet account (which I haven't used in god knows how many years), clicked on a few links, got a beta key and am now downloading the client.

I'm excited to try STO. The footage of ship combat looks fun, I hope I feel the same way once I'm in the game.

I'm concerned about the amount of content they are shipping with (apparently). I've read that the feds are basically all that is in the game. You can be klingon but it sounds like all you'll be doing is pvp.

It's concerning to see an MMO ship with 1 playable faction...I suppose it's not that different from Conan, everyone was human in that, just different builds but you could fight against each other. Having only the feds available to play at this point is a puzzle. There are a lot of different factions I would expect they had to choose from and they couldn't get more than one into the game?

Anyone know if you can attack other fed players? Maybe it would be so bad if you could go renegade and join the klingons? Or just be a rogue federation captain?

I love Star Trek so I imagine I'll have a lot of fun with this game. I have a friend who has played the beta and he enjoys it. Klingons are not really a faction at the moment... more like a playable PvP only Monster race like LotR. That's suppose to change after release tho. The Fed side is fun with plenty of missions and ships to fly. It supposed to be pretty bug free, but like most new MMO's it's going to need a few content patches to really shine. Cryptic is well known for it's dedication to adding new content regularly tho, so i'm not real worried about that

All I'll need to make me happy is my own star ship, plenty of ships to destroy and some decent away missions. Guess i'll find out for myself in 2.5 hours or so...

Actually, been in invite-only beta for several months. Closed beta just ended today, open beta starts tomorrow, headstart after that starting on the 29th, then a couple days after that, retail.

Isn't this game coming out, like, next month? And they're just now getting into beta?

I'm sure it'll be of much higher quality than every other prematurely released MMORPG...

Hardly an open beta, still a very restricted access. Open to me means available to anyone. So again Cryptic fails.

This game is a disaster waiting to happen. It will be the joke on MMO players for the year.
