All Microprose manuals were incredible, orders of magnitude better than the best manuals made these days. Some examples: Pirates!, Project: Stealth Fighter. The former included tons of anecdotes from "Cap'n Sydney," the latter included specs, basic blueprints and descriptions of most modern Russian and American fighters. The Pirates! manual is here:
