I see this US BRoadband deal as a waste of tax payers money. I go to family functions at way out in the middle of no where places, and they at least have DSL.

Anyway, is it really necessary we spend that money on things that are considered a luxury? I thought we had a very long list of things that needed to be addressed. The current set of House and Senate leaders are turning out to be more wasteful than past administrations. Not looking to start a Bush/Obama/Clinton/Bush fight....just appears to be the case in a time when everyone is tighteing their belts, the Gubmint is taking seconds of the gooey marshmellow laden sweet taters.

Now now, let's be nice to the people who might not be allowed to install things on their workstation at work.
Huh? I'm sorry, I was thinking about cake.

FYI, the link to the article "Twitters own account caused blackout" popped up 2 different windows for me with ads. Might want to avoid clicking it if you are not a popup fan.

Oh, look! I just clicked it four separate times. No popups, zero ads. I suggest you maybe stop using IE.

edit - Holy crap! I just scoped out the blocked items on that page, and ABP blocks TWENTY-SEVEN ELEMENTS. Good lord. That is a lot. I shudder to think what that page must look like with blocking disabled. Can you even read the damn article? O.o If I enable ABP for Blue's, all I get are four blocked items, and one of those is google-analytics.

Not to mention this mysterious control won't extend beyond our borders, but unfortunately the internet does. And yeah, if their plan to take control is to do it one farmhouse at a time, that doesn't sound like a great plan. Actually, one farmhouse at a time is kind of worrying. Where are all the crop circles and cow abductions? Farms. Either the government is using this as a pretense to gather surveillance on the aliens, or they're in league with them...

Buying control of tiny pieces of the internet in small, out of the way places doesn't seem like a very good way to try to get control of the internet. If that's their plan, then I think they need to go back to the drawing board.

If you think that money comes with no strings attached you are mistaken. The feds are buying control of the Internet under the pretense of universal access.
