Hasbro Sues Atari/Infogrames over D&D Distribution [Dec 17, 2009, 2:55 pm ET] – Share – Viewing Comments
Hasbro is suing Atari/Infogrames over Dungeons & Dragons licensing:
PAWTUCKET, RI--(Marketwire - December 16, 2009) - Hasbro, Inc. (NYSE: HAS) today filed a complaint in the District Court of Rhode Island against Infogrames Entertainment S.A., a.k.a Atari, S.A., alleging fraud and five different breaches of their licensing agreement for the Dungeons & Dragons brand.
Dungeons & Dragons is owned by Hasbro's wholly-owned subsidiary Wizards of the Coast, who discovered earlier this year that Atari may have entered into an unauthorized sublicensing relationship with Namco Bandai Partners (NBP) for the Dungeons & Dragons digital game rights. NBP is a competitor for both Wizards of the Coast and Hasbro, and such an agreement is prohibited under the contract between Hasbro and Atari.
"While unfortunate that we had to take this action, it is crucial for us to protect the Dungeons & Dragons brand," said Greg Leeds, President of Wizards of the Coast. "We have been working for several months now to reach resolution with Atari, and they have left us with no other choice than to pursue legal action."
Hasbro is seeking compensatory damages for economic losses suffered as well as a termination of the licensing agreement.

atari went two days now with public statement addressing the main complaint, only issuing the standard, *oh my, poor, poor us*, to make it to the weekend for cover. If Hasbro has been trying to work out a deal for months, it's sounding more and more like atari really was trying to double deal.
Only thing I really care about is if some how independent developers can get better treatment than atari has been offering.

What was the last great D&D game? Neverwinter Nights 2?
Wasn't nearly the same level as the original NWN, and even that was pale compared to the old bioware isometric games. NWN wasn't even as fun as the old SSI gold box D&D games. Those were great.
Hehe, was just in Pawtucket earlier, man that city is a dump. Glad I moved to East Providence instead of Pawtucket.
