Gothic 3 & More on Steam

Steam News announces they are now selling Gothic 3, the RPG sequel from Piranha Bytes. They also announce sales of the Madballs Devil's Night Skin Pack as well as Broken Sword II: The Smoking Mirror and Broken Sword III: The Sleeping Dragon. Here's the accompanying blurb about Gothic 3: "Myrtana, a world in upheaval: overrun by orcs from the dark lands in the north, King Rhobar is defending Vengard, the former stronghold of the humans, with his last troop of followers. Chaos reigns without: rebels are offering resistance, and the Hashishin of the south are openly collaborating with the orcs."

There are some design flaws in the open world concept of the game that no patch will fix but as always YMMV. I would not pay more than 10 bucks tops.

Can anyone verify if you can apply the community patches to the steam release of the game?

ps I played through the game at release. Even though it was a buggy piece of shit I still greatly enjoyed my time with it.

Did Gothic 3 ever get patched into some semblance of a good game?
I liked it before the community patches and now, after v1.72, love it. Had no technical problems during the 5 weeks I spent playing it. Total playtime was around 150 hours, or more.

Did Gothic 3 ever get patched into some semblance of a good game?

Several community patches fixed most technical and some of the gameplay bugs, making the game at least playable. But as Gothic 3 suffers from fundamental design flaws, which could only be repaired in making a complete new game ...

There was quite a substantial 'fan' patch for the game, above and beyond what was released by the publisher.

Whether this made the game playable or not, I do not know. M

My understanding from one of the larger fansites (whose name unfortunately, escapes me) is that the fan patch corrected most of the major problems with the game.

I have not played the game, nor do I plan to, given it's storied history, but at least an attempt was made by a group of dedicated fans to make the game playable.

Did Gothic 3 ever get patched into some semblance of a good game? Last I heard, it was several major patches away from it, but that was admittedly quite a while ago.
