PC Deus Ex 3 Follow-up

The Eidos Forums have a follow-up to the vague report that Deus Ex 3 is to be a PC exclusive (thanks Joystiq). Here's word from Eidos-Montréal that suggests this is erroneous, though they don't quite come out and say that:
Only the PC version has been announced so far. The magazine coverage we had last year were all PC: Joystick (France), PC Zone (UK), Gamestar (Germany), PC Guru (Holland), PC Powerplay (Australia), Total PC Gaming, etc. I dunno where that website is getting its info from!

Is this a troll or something? The interface was god damn unmanageable. It wasn't streamlined. It just was outright ruined.

Yeah, I'm not sure what Hump is smoking. The DX2 interface was just god awful by any standards. It definitely didn't have the same functionality as the DX interface either. In the DX interface, you had a hotbar so you could assign weapons and items to any number key. You could drag and drop items too, making inventory management much quicker and intuitive. The interface also showed you a lot more detail about each weapon. Range, accuracy, firing rate, damage, recoil, clip capacity, etc. You could also write your own notes.

With the DX2 interface, they tried to make something that looked cool but forgot all about functionality.

The whole uproar over the sequel was so overwrought and ridiculous that it still makes me shake my head in disbelief. The first thing was the interface...people actually got bent out of shape because it was streamlined to accommodate console players.....big deal. It had the SAME functionality only it was less complex.....that's a GOOD thing from a design standpoint, not bad. The other was universal ammo. Did that aspect REALLY detract from the game? Did it take away from the "realism" of shadow governments and alien infestations?
Is this a troll or something? The interface was god damn unmanageable. It wasn't streamlined. It just was outright ruined. Inventory required you to go thorugh some bizzare item swapping ritual instead of "right click to pick up item, manage inventory through drag and drop".

And universal ammo? Who cares about realism, it removes half the resource management which was an important part of the original.

I have a feeling you're sitting there chucking at how I pointed out those obvious things, but who knows.

If it's a console-centric port-to-PC, why would PC be the only confirmed platform? Wouldn't the main console be the first thing to be announced?

Far Cry 2 was originally announced as a PC exclusive. However, they soon switched over to 360 as the lead SKU. I think Deus Ex 2 was originally announced as a PC exclusive too.

Ten bucks says you think tanks will repeat your bitchfest mantra for the next "Game X Will Be Cross-Platform" story. Don't worry: in case you forget, I'll be here to point it out.

Twenty bucks says you are completely missing the point. EVERYBODY understands why consoles are the focus for most developers. That doesn't mean we have to like it, though.

EDIT: I don't know why my post is all italics. [Fixed by Frans ]

Reading his statement on the actual forum it almost sounds like a playful confirmation now, so I am really confused.

I can't imagine it is possible but... who knows?

How could you never have that problem? The game's "zones" were split up into dozens of little mini-areas to accommodate the Xbox's memory limitations. It's part of the games design, not something affected by who has better hardware. Did you play the sequel?

....Maybe because I didn't play it on xbox? It's not something I even recall from the game, so if it even happened, it didn't bother me enough to have it affect my impression of the game.

Now the only question if the development for it is being led on the PC, if it's a console port forget it.

I don't think I've ever seen a developer announce a platform other than their lead platform first.

The second one definitely wasn't as well made IMO as the first in a lot of ways. I'll keep and open mind, but the world has moved on.

As far as the storyline, granted, it could have been better but it was by no means a "bad" game. Given the reaction though, you'd think Eidos had put out a pedophile simulator or something.

He probably meant that it never bothered him. They got to be just a minor annoyance for me, so that I could actually somewhat enjoy the sequel.

Yes, IW had small areas, and it had bad loading times, and it had non-sensical universal ammo, and it was shorter... blah blah blah.

Every game has flaws, that doesn't mean the game was terrible. I quite enjoyed my time with IW and even played it again a year or so ago with the enhanced textures and still enjoyed it.

Don't forget that a rocket and a pistol and a flamethrower all fired the same ammunition. This isn't because console gamers are dumbasses, it's because it's really neat-o!

Oh and locational damage? Who needs that. It's hard to aim for the head on a console!

I wonder when PC gamers will stop being surprised by the following...

a) people like money
b) a business survives by making money
c) console games represent big business
d) developing games for a single platform is less lucrative than developing for all platforms (unless there's an exclusivity deal)

In other news, the sun is hot and water is wet.
