Star Wars Game Announce at VGAs

As tweeted by Geoff Keighley, the 2009 Spike TV Video Game Awards on December 12 will feature the announcement of the next Star Wars game. There is a very brief teaser clip on GameTrailers promoting the revelation.

Although a few nice things did come of them (KOTOR)

Actually Lucas's prequels really didn't bring about KOTOR. The group mostly responsible for KOTOR's inspiration was Dark Horse Comics with their series Tales of the Jedi.

Today's generation (ie, the target market) doesn't want deep simulators, and it DEFINITELY doesn't want games that offer ANY kind of challenge whatsoever.

Exactly, what I was thinking. A modernized X-Wing/Tie Fighter will, no doubt, disappoint those of us who loved the original.

You ask me, if they simply took Tie Fighter, revamped the engine with modern 'eve-quality' graphics and support for modern operating systems and joysticks, etc, it would sell MILLIONS.

Millions? I think they'd be lucky if it sold 50,000 copies. Today's generation (ie, the target market) doesn't want deep simulators, and it DEFINITELY doesn't want games that offer ANY kind of challenge whatsoever. A new Tie Fighter wouldn't sell for shit.

How do you dumb down a game that had invincibility and pass-through-objects right in the main options menu?

Make it so the stick moves, the a button fires and the b button boosts.

Which buttons are for the quicktime events then?

It is almost surely correct that they would dumb it down for today's market, even if it was a PC exclusive.

And yeah, a slightly reworked rerelease of the original, like Monkey Island got, would be amazing on its own.

I'm on the fence about a TIE Fighter game. I'm for it because it would kick total fucking ass with today's graphics. Remember, it doesn't have to render anything really but the ships, laser bolts, etc. You dedicate the majority of the GPU into the models, textures, etc. And I want an asteroid field to fly through. That's a must.

I'm against it because you can kiss your 150+ commands bound to your 101-keyboard out the window. They will consolize the fuck out of it just to reap in the benefits of the console market. No more laser, shields, engine balancing. No more running your engine at x% speed. No customization allowed.

Oh well, maybe it's just as well to leave the classics alone. Now if they ever released the source code for TIE, etc to the community....that would be a different story. I'd actually help Lucas hold down Indy for a second raping for that.

Man I wish Lucas never made those damn prequels. Although a few nice things did come of them (KOTOR) pretty much every other game based on the SW Prequel mythology sucked bollocks (storywise)

A proper sequel to Tie Fighter would make me weep with joy, I kid you not.

I have a nifty blue line!

I would agree about KOTOR 3
That is their big brand licence what about finishing up or continuing the story on that end....
KOTOR 3 is pretty much gonna be to TOR what Warcraft 3 was to WOW

What about KOTOR3? I know TOR is under development but we need closure on the single-player trilogy!

No Star Wars game has ever reached the hights that Tie Fighter did. A true classic and one that seriously needs a new version asap. Actually I would not mind if they remade the whole X-Wing series, but Tie Fighter first please! That was easily the best game in the series as well as the best Star Wars game to date. Bye bye rebel scum!!

I would bet it is a new Battlefront, which is fine and works well for console and PC both, but it's not my favorite series by a long shot.

I would love a new Dark Forces or X-Wing, so we shall see. Hell, an X-Wing remake would make me ecstatic. Actually a freaking Steam release of X-Wing would make me happy.

Anyway, it better not be Force Unleashed 2.
