Archon Remake Preorders and Pre-Beta [Nov 10, 2009, 6:27 pm ET] – Share – Viewing Comments
The Archon Classic Website now offers preorders of React Games' remake of the old school strategy/action game. They are offering those who order in advance a $5.00 discount off the regular price and immediate access to the pre-beta version of the game. They also offer new screenshots, and there's a new teaser trailer for the game on the YouTube. Word on the game is: "Our game is ARCHON and is a refreshing blast from the past, which features the perfect mix of Action and Strategy. In fact, it actually started the whole Strategy/Action genre of current games. You try and out-maneuver your opponents on a checkered (Strategy) board, then crush them in a Combat Arena, once your pieces meet."

There was a sequel on the Amiga that was even better. Archon 3 maybe? The field was not square. The original was great though. I loved rocking the djinn's whirlwind. Starcontrol 2 Mellee reminded me of it a lot, I wish that game had have had a strategic portion for multiplayer!
There was a sweet VGA clone of Archon in the 486 days as well. I cannot for the life of me remember what it was called, I think it might have been an Origin game, but maybe the choppy performance just makes me think it was.

Not interested in the pre-beta, but if the final version is decent and has the ability to play the CPU, I'll buy it.

Very nice to hear this is still moving forward. So are they going to make an Archon MMO? just kidding.
