Grand Theft Auto IV Patch

The Rockstar Website now offers downloads of a new patch for the Windows edition of Grand Theft Auto IV, though it seems they've forgotten the version 1.0.4.0 patch they released over the summer, as the new patch is also said to be version 1.0.4.0. The new version rolls all the localized updates into a single patch, offers a few Windows control enhancements, and some multiplayer fixes. The update, also automatically available through Games for Windows LIVE, is mirrored on AtomicGamer, FileFront, Gamer's Hell, The Patches Scrolls, and Worthplaying.

Her machine is a AMD Athlon dual core 5200+, vid card is a Radeon 3870 512mb and 3 gigs of ram. It runs fine on medium settings (around 30fps avg)

Thanks for the reply and the info. I wouldn't consider your wife's machine as low end though

They finally fixed not being able to bind the right mouse button under foot controls, but they STILL have not fixed the problem with the right mouse button hanging up the phone.

How low end is her machine? My 3 year old rig is an AMD Athlon 64 dual core 3800+, 2 GB RAM, and my vid card is a Nvidia 8800GTS 320MB. Think it will run it at 1440x900 with a half decent frame rate?

Your system will probably play it fine with no shadows as dubfanatic said but the only thing that I'd be concerned with is the CPU being a little slow.

Only if you turn off shadows.

Don't forget the DRM that exists on the DVD, (safedisc i think). If I leave the disc in the drive my PC takes about 5 minutes to boot up

it has been patched enough times by now that it runs fine on average systems. I know this for a fact since it runs on my wife's machine which only has a low end dual core proccessor.

So, there are two unneeded layers of crap on an otherwise awesome game!

You forget the people that bought the game on Steam. Total tally for those players is 3 layers of crap to deal with.

Games for windows is a worthless PILE OF CRAP.

That would be bad enough, but there is more hell required for this game!

Now you have to run Rockstar's own version called Social Club, or clamidia club as I call it.

So, there are two unneeded layers of crap on an otherwise awesome game! All of this stupid crap has got to go. Get rid of it, rockstar. GFW is worthless and you compound the problem by FORCING your V.D. club on innocent gamers, some of whom are still virgins.

The game is tops, though, and I hope that they release the two DLCs for the PC some decade.

It's time to buy it for PC if you haven't already. First off it's down to 20 bucks, secondly it has been patched enough times by now that it runs fine on average systems. I know this for a fact since it runs on my wife's machine which only has a low end dual core proccessor. Lost and Damned was a worthy expansion and Gay Tony is as well, both of them have enough content to warrant them a full game. The single player in Lost and Damned took me close to 20 hours and that's without doing a ton of side missions. How many expansion packs could claim that. GTA4 PC is the best way to experience the game and if you are still a hater of Games for Windows Live get over it, it's non-intrusive and runs just fine in the background.

I hope these "few Windows control enhancements" means they finally fixed the issues with binding mouse buttons under foot controls, and the problem with the phone hang up being hard bound to the right mouse button even if you bind it to something else.

I guess I'll find out later tonight when I get a chance to try this.

I'm glad to hear TLAD is making its way to the PC version of GTA4. Better late than never, if you ask me.

I hope TBOGT (The Ballad of Gay Tony) follows suit, as well - whenever that might be.

I wonder if sometime down the road, we might see on the PC a GTA4: Gold Edition on disc that'll ship with all the content for GTA4, The Lost and Damned, and Ballad of Gay Tony on disc.

Anyone have any feedback on the current status of the getting into the game? When first released, plenty of people complained about multiple social accounts needing to be created and poor performance. Has this been addressed at all, as I'm interested in picking it up. Any kind of multiplayer community still active?

Thanks,

Tom / Doc4
