Battlefield Bad Company 2 Beta Plans

The Battlefield Blog announces beta testing plans for Battlefield Bad Company 2, following indications earlier this week that such an announcement is near for the military shooter sequel. Testing on the PS3 will commence in two weeks, and PC testing is slated for December, but Xbox 360 owners will not be getting a beta, and will have to wait for the demo, which is planned for early next year for all three platforms. The PC testing is described as an open beta, so presumably the info on how to qualify applies to the PS3, where they say this for North America: "Beta Keys are limited in quantity and will be available through these select partners: Best Buy and Gamestop. Reserve your copy now in stores!" And they say this for Europe and Asia: "Keep your eyes open for local opportunities!" Here's word on the test:
The Battlefield: Bad Company 2 multiplayer beta will feature the Arica Harbour map, where up to 24 players can compete in one of the game’s four intense multiplayer modes called Rush. This new map displays a superb balance of vehicle and infantry combat, as the American assault unit attacks the Russian army base with full force, advancing further through a beautiful desert town and towards the industrial area in a desperate attempt to overtake the Arica Harbour. Heavy vehicle warfare on the first bases gradually turns into an intense infantry fight as the level progresses, showcasing this best-in-class online war experience.

Gamers can get a taste of this incredibly intense action by a numbers of ways including reserving the game with participating retailers. While supplies last.

When I heard "open beta" I thought to myself that this would be one of those "open betas" where Fileplanet gets to decide just how open it will be.

Not to worry though! It's just one of those open betas where you have to buy the game first!

Definitely going to need a demo for this one.

Fingers crossed, but not hanging on the edge of my seat either. I'll buy & play it, but will probably go back to Project Reality as it certainly has more depth.

I continue to be impressed by DICE's change in direction this game shows. Right after BFBC was released the added a pretty generous conquer mode update that made it possible to play the standard conquer mode in BFBC. It didn't work that well since the whole game was geared towards the gold rush style gameplay. (could only take points in order)

What they appear to be doing in BFBC2 is a total departure from that gameplay (goldrush) and looks to be a huge step closer to what a lot of people have been asking for from BF3.

And also, for 360 owners, supposedly microsoft said their slate is full and couldn't devote the time to beta'ing it over the busy holiday season. I'd say look for an announcement about a 360 beta after x-mas is passed.

The gameplay videos of this look good... and not as arcadey as I thought it would be...

health regens, but it isn't quick - medics are still around (and still have defib paddles) for a reason.
Tanks have a similar armor system to BF2 where glancing hits don't do much damage and it has different armor levels on different sides.
There is confirmed bullet drop for the sniper rifles (no news if all have it), and there is no quick scope switch.
Ammo isn't unlimited - but any ammo still in magazines is retained on reload (it was gone in bf2.)

All in all it looks like a good time... just no prone.

You asked what benefits do we have with a computer? You can purchase a current ATI dx11 video card (5770 1gb VRam) for $174!

As long as there's graphics cards out there like that and for that kind of price, PC Gaming will rule them all!

Jesus-man, explore your world!

This game will be good no matter what. We can argue against console systems until we are blue in the face, but we must ask ourselves what benefits do we have with a computer? I would do my surfing, emails, and business from my computers; however, gaming is another matter. Upgrade...upgrade and more and more hardware companies are not supporting their hardware as long. I been gaming for a very long time, but we(pc market)must act in some shape or form. Pirates are hurting us as well. Just saw the numbers about music downloads.... 95% of music that is downloaded is not paid for. Wow!
