Star Trek D-A-C November 17

A November release date for the Windows edition of Star-Trek D-A-C was announced last month, and now Big Download has word that the specific date is November 17, saying the game will be sold on Steam. D-A-C, already available on consoles, is an arcade space-combat game based on the recent Star Trek reboot movie. Here is a reminder of the concept: "Star Trek: D-A-C allows fans to directly control a variety of ships and pitch battles between Starfleet and the Romulan Empire. Up to 12 players can compete in thrilling team combat. There are three game play modes: Single player, online multiplayer and online co-op. For each mode, there are four different game types - Team Assault, DeathMatch, Conquest, and the all-new Survival mode, pitting players against increasingly overwhelming waves of enemies in order to set the record for survival time."

Fang,

If you want a serious Star Trek sim with almost unlimited play potential, Bridge Commander is it. I say that because if you get BC and then scoot over to BCFiles (http://www.bcfiles.com) and grab some fan made mods and addons, it turns BC into a sandbox-type almost persistent universe sim. The mods that make this happen are Unified Menu, Sub-Menu, BCMI and BCMP, and last, but most important - Galaxy Charts. This mod alone transformed the game for me. It allows you to warp to various systems and battle against random adversaries. You can also build your own fleets and play galactic cop. If you have the chance to buy BC, don't hesitate. You won't regret it. The original campaign included in the game alone is worth the purchase IMO...

Really? I've just read about Bridge Commander, and that looks pretty interesting, but I can't see where I can pick it up. It's not on GOG and a boxed copy is selling for a pretty penny. Anyone know if this is still being sold anywhere?

Does anybody care about this on PC?

They just want something to release alongside the release of Star Trek on bluray. I downloaded the demo on the 360 and I can't recommend wasting the bandwidth on even that.

Insurrection was actually a rather good Star Trek story at the core, even if the execution was a bit pedestrian.

An Star Trek top-down arcade shooter? *pfft* That's almost as much a blasphemy as that Insurrection movie was.

It's a top down shoot em up. On the 360 1 stick moves the ship, the other stick fires in the direction.
Only reason they are doing this is due to the console version's being dead empty of life.

Stick to Bridge Commander.

Meh, yeah, in a way. I'd definitely try a demo first before a buying consideration, which I usually don't do when it comes to Star Trek-themed space-sims. Both Bridge Commander and Legacy were bought without prior playtime with me. If you already have your expectations low, then it won't be too hard to give it a try. You can almost be certain it'll be arcadey-ish, as in X-Wing instead of Klingon Academy. I don't know, I didn't read the console reviews, but since I keep my eyes peeled for stuff like this, not seeing much about it review-wise tells me right there not to expect much...

Don't start anything you can't finish. Preferably to component atoms.
