It's really the lack of communication that has me peeved. It's true that it's just a game. But this is a company that takes games *seriously*. In the end, though...there's really no excuse and maybe they realize that. The insult is that xbox players have been playing this all day.

Actually, Ive been Alt-tabbing out of Torchlight periodically to read/post to the Torchlight and Borderlands threads, and obviously decided to post in this one as well.

L4D2 dedicated server has been released. And the demo to my understanding is due out at 11pm PST tonight...so technically they will have made the release date of Oct 27th.

Meh, that just means more time with Torchlight. For $20, that's turned out to a great deal.

There are some "givens" - valve will always be late, and battlefield games will be laggy on day 1. Take it as a given. Wait a week if you can't be bothered.

It's just a demo, you'll have the rest of your life to play the game, you're not that important, and if you are that upset then get a refund and boycott valve for the rest of your life because you didn't get to play a game demo 4-6 hours earlier than you were initially told.

In the meantime, if you cry a little more and tell everyone how much you have been hurt and inconvenienced over not getting to play a video game demo at a specific time, someone, somewhere, someday, somehow, might agree with you, somewhat. Everyone else will just point and laugh at how incomprehensibly absurd you are.

Honestly guys, arranging your precious time around a demo, much less a demo from Valve of all companies, and being surprised when the deadline is missed is just being stupid. It's a demo, be thankful PC game developers still make them.

Speaking of which, why do pre-orders get early demo access anyhow? Isn't it better business sense to give everyone else similar access so more people order? I mean you may as well cut the demo altogether and spend the effort on the main game.

Yep, and do I care that L4D2 demo didn't come out today? Nope. Just means I'll play one of the several other new games I have to play. No point bitching about it for a demo being a few hours late.

I don't book time off work, make arrangements with the wife/girlfriend to keep her occupied for releases of games and especially not demos. We all know release days can be troublesome for most games, or sometimes even delayed. So what's the point in trying to schedule your life around it? It's a recipe for frustration, as he has just learned.

Even more-so that it's a Valve release. How many times have Valve delayed a game release, demo, beta, patch, etc? I'm sure none of the people care that there are probably many Valve staffers working very late tonight trying to get the demo fixed up to release to the legion of whiners.

Wow looks like one of the whiners from the Steam forums made it to this board too. 'Give me back my money because my demo is delayed by a few hours'? That's laughably ridiculous.

For what it's worth though, I think they held it back for some technical reason. Maybe they know it will spike bandwidth usage and they are releasing it at the time when their average usage is low? Also, there was a Steam client update just now and when it restarted, the L4D2 demo preload started downloading some data too. It's possible they put out a patch for the game even though it's still unlocked, which could mean they found some bug or something in the demo. Or it might simply be a matter of them always having planned to release the demo at this time and someone made a simple mistake in the Steam community announcement.

It's really really simple for why I'm annoyed with this. I'm 38. I have a kid. I pre ordered the game to get access to the demo, and booked that time in with the missus so I could be a kid myself for a few hours. If you take my money, and promise to deliver, you better had, or you just wasted my time. That's A1 crappy business practice.
