ArmA2 has damn-near everything a military game should have. Other developers should at least come close to those options if they're to be taken seriously by us.
But it just doesn't play well... at all. Sure it's got potential but it never comes off. Animations are horrendous, movement is horrible, the interface is clumsy, the gameplay is ropey, etc.
I will concede the engine needs more optimization.
People complain about performance but that's actually not one of the issues I've had, even running it at 1920x1200. Sure it could be better but I've played a lot worse.
Dr. D. Schreber and theyarecomingforyou, you should play ARMA2 on the SPARTA server or with Charlie Fxotrot. Teamspeak essential.
Using Teamspeak does nothing to address the issues with the gameplay mechanics.
I'm really trying to get into ArmA II, as I'm a huge fan of tactical shooters, but it's just not doing it for me - OFP:DR looks to be a better game. It's a bit pricey on Steam and with all the bugs and issues it's not worth paying full price for but I'll certainly pick it up on sale or wait for a demo. Sure it's not quite as "deep" but it looks more fun.
