Out of the Blue

Consumed - The Cult of Mexican Coca-Cola (thanks j.c.f.) I still haven't been able to find the Mexican version, dammit. Also, count me as one of those who has always believed "the entertaining conspiracy theory that the 1985 New Coke fiasco was an intentional failure, orchestrated to distract consumers from an ingredient switch in Coke Classic."

If you like Dr. Pepper, there is a Pure Cane Sugar variety available here:

http://www.dublindrpepper.com/

It's bottled in Dublin, Texas, and available year round. If you live in or near Austin, TX, you can buy it by the case at Live Oak Market at 4410 Manchaca Rd.

Yeah, I get it when I go through Lampassas. I've seen it in San Saba also.

Why don't you just pick up Passover coke?

It's readily available each year, if you can't find a place that sells the Mexican coke or can't afford the trip south of the border.

I remember when New C ke came out, there was a little store next to the place I worked, and they had a vending machine stuffed with old C ke. So I went over there and got about 20 bucks in change, and emptied that sucker.

"She was telling people she won $1.5 million," Deakins said. "But it ends up she didn't win anything. She had no money to pay for anything." ... That's when angry customers, realizing they weren't getting free coats, began throwing merchandise on the floor and grabbing clothes without paying for them, Nace said.

"Everybody was like, 'I still want my free stuff,' and that started the riot," he said. "It looks like (Hurricane) Katrina went ‘Lottery winner’ causes riot at coat store.through the store."

I'm surprised your local Costco doesn't have Mexican Coke - - every one I've been to around here does ....

I'm a soda fanatic. Luckily, there are lots of places that stock the good stuff here. The Mexican restaurant around the corner carries Coke and Squirt with sugar cane for a quick fix. Galco's Soda Pop Stop and BevMo have pretty much everything else. You can order from those online.

www.sodapopstop.com and www.bevmo.com. I think both even have a sugar cane section.

Apparently cost is the real reason Coke uses HFCS in US coke. It's just cheaper. And Coke apparently doesn't like the growing movement of people asking for Coke with cane sugar - which is stupid. Would most people really care about paying and extra five or ten cents more for a bottle of cane sugar Coke?

And don't forget up here in Canada our Coke is still cane sugar coke too. We don't use HFCS in soda - so far as I know - and there are very strict limits on caffeine in pop as well. So next time you come north of the border grab a coke and see if there's a difference.

I wonder how much it would cost to buy a case, put it in a cab, and have it driven to New York?

No, actually, I gave up being a "sugar-pop junkie" several years ago.

Well you sure seem fixated with it lately.

You've gone from coffee junkie to sugar-pop junkie. I never would have guessed this.

No, actually, I gave up being a "sugar-pop junkie" several years ago. I have already consumed enough soda in my life to fill an oil tanker.

Soda is also ill-advised for my LPRD, but for cane sugar Coke, I would risk side effects to enjoy one every one in a while.
