Mass Effect 2 Trailer

A new video on the YouTube reveals Subject Zero, another of the characters in Mass Effect 2, BioWare's upcoming RPG sequel. Subject Zero, a self-described "all-powerful bitch," has an attitude, a snazzy haircut, and a snappin' gyro from what we can infer from the clip, making her a worthy addition to Shepard's (or anyone's) team. Thanks GameSpot.

HOLY SHIT THAT BITCH IS WICKED! AND I NORMALLY NEVER USE CAPS!

That said...

Well that trailer is meant to appeal to teenage boys and I'm sure it does this well.

I'm 24 years old. And THAT bitch... is awesome.

She could kill you and you wouldn't even know it until you were, you know, dead! Paperbag

They have a higher pedigree with games like planetscape torment and the boulder gate series amongst others.

Planescape Torment wasn't made by Bioware, it was made by Black Isle.

As for all the other comments, when Bioware makes a by the numbers RPG people whine that they never do anything different, and then they make a different character, and people whine that it's so cliche to try to be different.

In short, Bioware can never win.

I'm fucking excited about this game. If this character turns out to be shitty, I'll take other characters along. Of the original ME, only Wrex was actually worth anything in a fight. (actually, Wrex was a fucking giant of asskicking.)

I think she's got lots of potential.

Biotics in Mass Effect were often portrayed as borderline (or outright) crazy, terrorists, sect members, schizophrenics. If Subject Zero isn't your typical "plays badass but has heart of gold and will become a girl scout if the PC is just nice to her" bitch but instead they really try to depict a "special" chara in a realistic fashion it would have real potential.

They're trailers are (almost) always geared towards the drunk fratboy crowd so the trailer doesn't worry me.

But Mass Effect's story is a collection of some of the lamest cliches in sci-fi and I've often said that I love the cinematic presentation but the story itself is crap. *That* worries me.

@ Overon
Oh come on, I surely did my part when I set Planescape far above and not as a direct comparison. And you got something wrong when you think that Bioware had their part in Torment, they only used Biowares Engine.

And what do you expect from Bioware in the trailer? When this character is designed as a fighting bitch, what shall they show you? An episode where she acts in a futuristic play of Shakespeare?

On the one hand you don't want to finally judge on her part in the game, but on the other you are quite mad about the shown basics. Hell, she is a bitch and that's it. And who said that there is no place for a bitch in any RPG? Can't be worse than the next 1,000 macho warriors.

We are talking about the trailer's portrayal of this character is one big video game cliche and eye ball rolling cheesey and I thought Bioware was better than that.

I don't know why you would think that, Bioware has had plenty of cliched video game characters and plots in their games. Jade Empire was one big eye roller from the VA to the plot but it was still fun. ME had it's share of intentional cliches borrowed from other sci-fi works. Going back further they were adopting fantasy novelizations aimed at teenagers. They make fun games but let's not pretend that they're making high art here or something.

Look, nobody here so far is saying that this trailer is the last word on this character or the game, so stop exaggerating our position by attempting to take our arguments to an absurd level. I love that people are blaming "marketing."

This was a development choice. Marketing put the video together, but the character is the brainchild of the development team.

What is the big issue? I never loved all characters in alomst every single RPG (besides Planescape maybe). It would be boring anyways.

Her look doesn't personally appeal me, but what the hell has that to do with that she might be a worthwhile part of the storyline, with her own interesting twists?
And you surely can't judge her part in the game just by such a trailer.

What if she said "consoles are the bane of the gaming industry"? You all would be calling her the best character ever made.

Ehm... duh? That's called "logic".

I don't think it's bioware but their marketing and who ever is in charge of it these days.

Probably some joker at EA who is 22, has one of those 'took 4 hours to make my hair look like I just woke up' haircuts with a severe need to get laid. Oh and he thinks lots of swearing, as-nude-as-possible chicks and as much blood as you can fill a swimming pool are the coolest things in gaming.

Ugh, terrible. I'm having a hard time coping with guys spending hours in front of the mirror trying to get there hair elegantly disheveled. The people at the marketing can burn in hell for all I care. What they are doing to BioWare is a pure fucking crime. And I'm being dead-fucking-serious here.

I just don't see how a caricature, designed to appeal to immature gamers is a good for the game. Is it really that difficult to create deep characters without resorting to cliches and stereotypes? Next thing you tell me, that character, while a bad ass has a soft tender heart, is misunderstood, and really the exterior gruffiness is just a facade to hide her sensitive nature. If that's the case my eyes will roll up and they will never roll back down.

This character might just aswell be a deep, innovative character. Her looks, to start with, are absolutely not cliché and if you think otherwise then I don't know what the hell you would concider innovative. And why is an over-the-top badass person automatically put in the catagory of "cliché"? A very narrowminded point of view you got there.

Besides, I'm having the idea she's beyond "fixing". IF she is indeed turning, merely by a few paragon choices made by Shepard, then I, too, spit on her character and scream "CLICHÉ!".

Was she all tattooed and wearing a belt as a shirt, or was there like, something other than a belt for a shirt?

Weird. Just weird.

From what I've heard so far, "weird" should be a good thing.

Nothing wrong with that at all! It's not like Baldurs Gate 2 didn't have a bit of steamy action...

If you can't tell the difference between this and BG2, then...well...you need to pay closer attention.

I probably wont have her in my party, I'm a pussy when I play these games and have trouble being a jerk, but variety is the spice of life hey! Better than the usual "beefcake" jerk character or angry dwarf you usually get. If this game is anything like the first it will be awesome.

That said I can get over myself and deal with new control schemes. I'm used to it after 15 years of PC gaming anyway.

If I was Bioware I'd simply cancel the PC version of this game and say "You want to whine, Blue's News dipshits? Enjoy playing ME2 on your console, faggots.

How do you know that people here are all planning on playing it on PC? For that matter, what makes you think all of the negative comments on Youtube, where the link is from, are all from PC gamers? Is it not possible that **GASP** console gamers might not have liked the new character movie either? Inquisitive

FYI: I added you to my friends Steam list "Dead Shot" =)

Appreciated and accepted!

Exactly can you imagine the world filled with a bunch of punkass pricks like NKD, gaming would go right down the toilet and rightly so.
