lol maybe the videogame industry should impose sanctions on the Australian government.

You mean that penal colony?! Bah! I'll not give legitimacy to a collection of dissenters, riffraff, street thugs, street urchins, and ruffians! God save the Queen!

Team-building anti-zombie exercises and simulated undead situations are necessary for humanity to survive. What if a zombie attacked your family? Won't they think of the children!?

Whoa, did the Führer die or something? Perhaps it will only be playable in monitored, government-sanctioned zones?

In fact, evidence has pointed to the contrary - as violent videogames become more prevalent in American society, youth violence has been steadily dropping over the same time period.

Aye, in fact, if I recall from a research paper I did a while back, violent crime among youth stopped climbing and started to drop in 1993...that should ring a bell, DOOM came out the same year.

What's going on here is a 2-fold dynamic. Firstly, in a world increasingly marred by violence in every corner, Australia remains a country of extremely low violent crime, high public order, and very high standards of living, and for obvious reasons would like to keep it that way. The second dynamic is that they've apparently bought into the junk science that declares violent videogames to be intrinsically influencing youth violence world-wide. Of course, therein lies the problem. There is virtually no provable causality between playing a game and committing acts of violence. In societies like the US with extremely high instances of violence and high videogame use, the evidence is at best circumstantial. To whit - does anyone actaully violent crime would be affected at all were violent games completely removed from society? I have yet to hear even the most ardent anti-videogame nut make that claim, as there is absolutely no basis whatsoever. In fact, evidence has pointed to the contrary - as violent videogames become more prevalent in American society, youth violence has been steadily dropping over the same time period.

So Aussies, get on the phone with your elected officials and demand they educate themselves on this!

"The assumption that animals are without rights, and the illusion that our treatment of them has no moral significance, is a positively outrageous example of Western crudity and barbarity. Universal compassion is the only guarantee of morality."

Their press release definitely makes it clear what they think about the OFLC's rating system.
Namely: "Your lack of an 18+ category is preposterous."

I have to agree. Suggesting that the most mature content allowed in the region is fit for 15-year-olds is absurd.
