Speaking at an EA event at the Tokyo Games Show, Valve has revealed a playable demo for Left 4 Dead 2 is expected on October

Joystiq. Valve has already stated a demo will precede the
game's release and that there will be early demo access for
preorders, but those matters are not mentioned, nor is whether the demo is
coming to PC, Xbox 360, or both. Update: To be clear the story says this
was announced by Valve, and not EA, as this article originally stated. Apologies
for causing any confusion.

Yeah they do. I'm just saying that's what they need to do get my money. If they don't want it, fair enough. No skin off their back or mine. It's pretty easy to say no to a game especially in the next two months which are literally jam packed with other great games. Somewhere along the way some of you forgot your power as consumers. They need your money a lot more than you need that game. Yes even Valve needs revenue.

Demos with a preorder is still the stupidest thing ever. I am playing a demo to see if I want the game, asshats.

Well hell, if that's the case, since I bought every Valve game at launch they should give me a house, a Ferrari, and two blond chicks.
Negotiations tend to go better when you refuse to do what they want, IE buy the game, until you get what you need out of the deal. If you wanted a House, a Ferrari, and two blond chicks, you don't go buy the game, then hold your hand out.
You make them give you the house first, ferrari and the 2 chicks, then you buy the game.
In this case you make them come down on the price before you buy the game. Your demands are a bit much for a $60 game but I'm rooting for you!

I don't really feel I got my money's worth out of Left 4 Dead so I'm with the "haters", I think Valve should do some promotional discounts for people who own the first game. I don't think I am owed anything per se but I definitely won't buy Left 4 Dead 2 without a discount.

They owe me whatever I say they owe me if they want to purchase this title. If they don't accommodate me then fair enough, plenty of other games to play this season. Life goes on, I'm not going to cry about it and I doubt they will either.
For the record the L4D1 launch was a horrible mess, dedicated server support is still substandard to this day and DLC was months late.

I'll buy this game when it's $20 and not a penny more. They still owe me for L4D1 being such a mess.

There was a half-price Steam sale about 6 months after L4D was released (maybe even less, can't remember), so I am betting that the same will happen for L4D2.

Yeah they disabled the first games demo at launch which was pretty ridiculous, I remember folks around here were none too happy.
Should be interesting to try the demo. I bet they'll disable the demo at launch like they did with the first one...(that happened right? I'm not just imagining that?)
Unless the demo is just jaw dropping goodness I don't see myself picking this up. (Shocking, I know) I'd say my excitement for this game is tied with Madden 10. A roster update and a few new graphical changes? Why am I not impressed?
I'm sure plenty of people will pick it up though...so enjoy!

I find it... odd that EA is announcing this.
The story now states Valve announced it. It may have said that all along, though I thought I got it right the first time. Sorry about that.

I'm fine with EA announcing it, they're at least used to doing proper PR. Valve's communicaton with the community is notoriously bad and sporadic. We'd probably find out it was coming a week beforehand and the Steam unlock time would be off by 10 hours that day.
I find it... odd that EA is announcing this. Might only be for 360 and a Valve announcement is soon to follow for PC.
