That's almost my exact reaction I had the first time I rode a roller coaster at Six Flags in San Jose, CA... with the triple loopy-loop!

Yeah, I just did some snooping around and found some reviews that showed significant (10-15% in some cases) increases in some games with the 2GB if you were playing at 2560x1600 or with lots of AA.

That seems pretty logical, yeah. So you're unlikely to use it now, unless you're going to hook up a 32 inch plasma to your computer. (Hey, the card comes with native HDMI! )

It also looks like that cooler's pretty nice and quiet, which is a big plus for me. I replaced the cooler on my 8800GT with an Accelero S1 for passive cooling, and was planning on doing the same with a 4890 if/when I buy one of those. It probably won't be able to handle a 4890 passively, but the little fan kit they sell separately for $5-10 is supposed to be as near to silent as you can get.

Most likely it doesn't help right now, and you're just as well off buying a version with 1GB. I didn't find it the first time through, but they do have a 1GB version as well :

I guess it kind of depends on what you value more. To me, a quiet graphics card is a must. I hate vacuum cleaners in my room. If noise isn't so much an issue, then don't spend any extra money on a quieter cooler.

As for the 1GB vs 2GB, right now I doubt there's anything that uses the extra Gig, but if you keep the card for two years or so, it's not out of the question that you'll come across something that uses it. (Rage perhaps?)

30 bucks for an extra Gig of V-RAM, eh, to each his own whether it's worth it or not. Now that I found the 1GB version, I'd probably recommend that one.

Edit : Pricewise it seems about even with a GTX275. I've seen very few performance reviews that compare the two, but I think they were fairly even. (4890 vs. 275)

But I see a lot of people saying that it runs pretty damn hot (75-90 celsius, which is SMOKY). The 4890 I linked stays around 50-70 under load.

Edit : Make sure you run a 64 bit OS, otherwise the 2Gig on this puppy is going to KILL your available RAM in your OS... That's the only reason I haven't bought one yet, as I'm waiting on Win7 to come out.

Vid card question: Now that my GTS8800 is almost 3 years old I believe it's starting to get a little flaky so I'm looking for a new card. Sor of like Goldilocks - not too hot, not too cold, but just right. What's the sweet spot for Nvidia cards these days GTX??? Most I want to spend is about 300 bucks (CDN) and I see the 260's and 275's are that range and cheaper so what's the best value for the dollar right now?
