Yeah, 300 is unusual, i am not playing WoW anymore so maybe they have solved it, but when WoW launched (aside from not running at all due to 2second lag) some places, especially Ironforge were notorious for this. Lots of people waited in front of the bank/griffon/auction thing and there was always a huge commotion there. Did they move the bank or the griffon?

What you said though, nothing beats watching the sun go down in WoW at some of the elven places or traveling through the (huge) deserts. The art and the music just fit perfectly..

But yeah.. i am glad i don't play it anymore, it really is an addiction

lets see the FPS on Aion when there are 300 people on screen

Not to be a pain in the ass but I have rarely seen this many players on screen at any moment during my time on WoW and I'm on one of the older servers (Eldre'Thalas). Sure, you get the huge player build up during the new content patches or expansions but I would doubt there are 300 on screen at any given time. Also, I always have to point out that latency and fps are two separate beasts.

Oddly enough I find it to be the reverse with Aion: I can crank all the settings in Aion in populated cities like Pandaemonium and I would bet the farm that it still runs smoother than WoW in Dalaran under similar circumstances...and we all know how awesome Dalaran runs.

One thing which I will always give WoW credit for is not so much the technological graphics of the game but the creative and artistic direction which the graphics use especially in the old world content. I think the best way to capture a fantasy world is to not go overboard with graphics such as Conan but to give the players the ability to immerse themselves in the world they are entering. You can only be wowed by the quality of the graphics for so long but you always respect the detail of the landscape and imagination put into it for a much longer time. Silithus, while unfortunately lost in time, is one of my favorite zones in WoW because of this and Cataclysm is making me excited!

...So I guess my heart is still soulbound to WoW in spite of its flaws and age.

Not to forget Wow will be celebrating their 10th anniversary by opening server nr 1000, whilst Aion will be down to 1 server in a year

And while they touched on it mildly in the article, WoW celebrates its 5th launch anniversary in November while Aion just launched. Any five year gap in games will produce ridiculous differences in graphics.

As a plus we now know that author has a firm grasp on the obvious.

What type of nutjob decided to compare two games with wildy different art styles and requirements? WoW looks the way that it does because it fits within the predefined Warcraft art style seen in the RTS games.

This totally reminds me of the days when people would stoke their egos by Arguing whether Unreal was better than Quake, or how many tenths of a FPS counter they could get by buying more hardware.
