Steam F.E.A.R. 2: Reborn (DLC) and Patch

The Steam version of the new Reborn DLC for F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin is now available, and though Monolith announces this should also be on sale for $9.99 USD via other portals like IGN (Direct2Drive) and Digital River, it has not shown up elsewhere yet (the manual patch for the previous DLC release trailed the Steam release by a week). Steam also has the automatic patch to update Monolith's scary shooter sequel with support for the new DLC and the new slow-mo deathmatch mode. Here's word on Reborn:
Experience four brand new single-player levels in this additional DLC campaign for F.E.A.R.2! Coinciding with the events seen in the full game, you will experience the chaos of Alma’s aftermath from an entirely new point of view: that of Replica Soldier 813. Your mission begins with an orbital Powered Armor drop to reinforce your fellow Replica squad… But not everything is as it seems. Supernatural events run wild in the apocalyptic remains of Auburn. Another voice is beckoning you; contradicting orders from Replica command. Find out the answer to this, and many new questions, in the DLC campaign F.E.A.R.2: Reborn!

Pirating software is like beating up a prostitute: You can like it and still not have to pay for it and the only one who cares is the distributor.

Good one, made me chuckle. I wish kxmode in all of his millions of stale one liners could do that once in awhile.

As to FEAR, I only made it halfway through the first one before getting bored. I realize that it was a good PC game that many here enjoyed but it got too repetitive for me. Same enemies, same environment, nothing new and it got dull for me.

FEAR 2 sounded like they ramped up the atmosphere but dumbed it down a bit yet I can't judge it as I never tried it. If people want to pay ten bucks for a couple of hours then let the market dictate if that is a valid business model or not.

I wouldn't do it for Quake 4, which I liked but I would have bought an expansion for it.

Or COD4, I bought that after a year of knowing what it was and didn't like it, never finished so I wouldn't buy DLC for it or an expansion but many people will.

I suppose if you get entertainment out of it and think it's value for your money then both you and the seller have a win-win relationship.

Myself, I'm a bit more picky and narrow-minded in what I like these days but let those that want to spend their money on stuff that they enjoy do so.

Even if a few of us think they are idiots wasting money on crap. It's their time and their money.

I was waiting for FEAR2 to go on sale to pick it up but 25% is pretty pathetic, especially when it's cheaper at retail. It's even cheaper on console (both X360 and PS3) than the PC. This game needs to be less than £15 before I pick it up.

Tell that to Vince Offer. So happy I never even considered getting this game for a second.

Well, it's more FEAR 2... I guess that is a no-brainer. The setup and way they do the Replica Soldier storyline is pretty awesome though. One thing Monolith does really well in my opinion is setting up action moments.

Don't know how long it is, I played for 45 minutes and got to level 3 of 8.

Jesus Christ you fuckers will just bitch about anything, won't you?

There have been 2-3 DLC add-on packs for FEAR 2 already, all of them containing a bunch of multiplayer maps. Completely free.

They release a single-player add-on that's probably a few hours long for $10, and suddenly it's bullshit?
Except, they still haven't released dedicated server files or a proper anti-cheat client, so hence, the multiplayer community is next to nonexistent. Their priorities should be the above two. Yes, new maps are nice, but what's the point when you still lack basic multiplayer functions that many other games have with a much higher population?

Eurogamer has stated these 4 levels could be beaten in a little under 2 hours. Fear 2 lacks any replayability at the moment because there is no modding tools, so $10 is a lot, especially since you can get the entire game for only $15. I think $6 is a much more reasonable price. No doubt there will be a platinum or gold edition down the round on sale that combines all the DLC in one package.

It's only $25 on D2D, and once you get your CD key from there, you can instantly activate it on Steam - it uses Steamworks. Never need to worry about a future D2D download again after the initial purchase.

Bought it... taking a while to download... excited to play it. I think 4 more levels is worth $10, since the whole game was like 10 levels.

If it was a 6 hour expansion pack for $20-30, no one would be bitching at all.

MuzixMon, try rebooting Steam. If that still fails, check the forums, see if others are having the same problem.

As for FEAR 2, never bothered with it, and wont.

So I completed the download and it updated all the way (I'm assuming) and now the fuckin' game won't start at all!!! WTF is this shit?!?! I try and start it and it says "This game is currently unavailable please try again later" I've never seen this before, when exactly is later? Days, weeks, a month? Wow what a crock of shit. The more purchases I make through Steam the more I grow to hate them and I've made A LOT!

So I wrote the email to Steam service and someday they will respond to me saying they can't help me with my issue. I give up with this shit tonight all I've accomplished is getting aggrivated... boy am I glad I made this purchase!

I don't understand why people go out and buy games without knowing what they're getting. You don't have to buy them on day one. You know that right? You can wait and hear all kinds of good info within a week or so and actually make an informed decision. You'll have a lot less regrets that way, and the publishers won't make a bundle on crappy games. Everybody wins (except the publishers, but I consider that a win too).

This isn't free? Then what the fuck was downloading earlier, because this was the fucking "update" news:

[-]September 3, 2009 - New F.E.A.R.2: Reborn DLC / F.E.A.R.2: Project Origin on Sale

F.E.A.R.2: Reborn DLC is now on Steam.

Experience four brand new single-player levels in this additional DLC campaign for F.E.A.R.2! To celebrate the new DLC, the base game F.E.A.R.2: Project Origin is 25% off until September 10th.

I fucking regret buying this game more than I regretted buying the Crysis SE.

I'm guessing 4 levels equals 2 hours of playtime MAX, if so I've been ripped off. I bought it, it's updating now and I will let you know just how much game my 10 bucks got me.

This is the first time and possibly last I have ever paid for a small add on pack for any PC game. It's a test more than anything just to see what developers think they can can push on thier customers and charge decent money for. If it is only 2 hours of gameplay they take us all for suckers! The PC crowd won't eat it up like the foolish console gamers do that's for sure.

I think the idea to have a chance to play the opposing faction a nice refreshment to a game. That might be why I think Opposing Force was a great expansion and why 'Hunk' in Resident Evil 2 was worth working for.

Tofu on the other hand, that was fucking epic...
