WoW Faction Changes Begin, Race Changes Planned

The World of Warcraft Forums have word that paid faction changes are now underway. Blizzard Support's Faction Change FAQ has all the details, and word is: "After purchasing a Faction Change for a character, a player can choose any race of the opposite faction that is compatible with the character’s class." They also say that they will also be offering a paid race change service going forward, and more details on that will be revealed at a future date.

They're really against changing something often, and this would be the way to do it... If you think about it (and you did research by going horde/alliance and talking to alot of people), it's likely a one-time thing... though if you wanted to transfer multiple characters, then...well... Dayum.

$30 is still too much. I was expecting $15, at the most...

Also, they WANT you to start a new character and level it up, so it's either $15-$30 spent leveling up a character, or $30 to transfer an existing character, basically. They desire you to spend more time playing and wasting your time.

You can easily spend that time with the character you'd transfer. It doesn't include a server transfer either, so that's another $25 if your character was on the wrong faction on another server, too.

All of you really need to think before posting your comments!

It's $30 to keep the price reasonable for those that really want to use the service at the same time prevent players from constantly abusing it.

Gosh!

Can't even imagine why someone would need this in the first place. What they think one side is cool, then after they get to 30th or 40th they can't tell they don't like the faction, wth.

One scenario: find out a group of friends at work play, but are Horde, while you're alliance. Switch and join them.
Playing: Overwatch, FFXIV, Ion Fury
Xbox Live: Heinekev
PSN: Heinekev

I have a level 70 Shaman and 63 Mage from back when I played on Alliance side. I want to play them again on the Horde side. That's one reason... I'm sure there are more.

That's exactly it. Those that really want to do it now have the option, but it keeps them from getting flooded by people wanting to change their characters every other week.

But I agree, the price is still too high...

Within two months you could probably grind out a character which meets or exceeds the character you would like to transfer for $30.

On the other hand, I always see people whine and complain about having to spend endless amounts of time to grind characters.

So which will it be? Have the option to pay $30 and transfer a character instantly or complain about spending a far greater amount of time grinding?

For someone like me who is interested in playing the Worgen in Cataclysm, this presents a unique opportunity to transfer an end-game character and start collecting emblems for BoA gear so I can have both an Alliance and Horde power-grinding set for the new races.

$30 seems a bit much. I expected it to be $20 or at least $25 (same as Realm transfer). But nevertheless, I had already transfered my Undead Warlock to a friends server in anticipation of this server. I'll pay the $30 at some point and move him to Alliance.

Blizz are also implementing cross server instance grouping. While this will be brutal for PUGs, it will be nice to be able to play with friends on other server (same faction) without having to transfer characters to another server or level another character up.

$30 dollars is just a shade more than a Blue-ray movie. Cheaper than it is to fill my gas tank. About the price of a good meal, and a few beers. No issue with the price in my book. Worth the price to play a character with my RL friends.

Theres also the people that burned bridges with raiding guilds (we had 3 of these) and now either get by without raiding or move to horde (though even that isn't a sure thing, rep follows you wherever you go).

In response to the three posts that suggested the cost served the purpose of discouraging frequent use of that function, the FAQ states the following:
How often can I change a character's faction?

You may change a character's faction every 60 days.
Imho the price tag's only purpose is profit.

Of course the price is ridiculously high. They're trying to deincentivize it. They literally don't want you to spend your money changing sides. Can you not see that?

Of course they do. Their market research tells them this is what they can squeeze most suckers, er players for. It was like the pay per view thing for Blizcon. This is a process they could easily accomidate for free, but choose to charge for. ActiBlizz is soon going to start charging for just about everything.

I'm a WoW hater myself but Cutter don't you think it's possible some people genuinely regret their choices in the game and actually wanted the service? Giving it away for free would let anyone do it and reduce the impact that choices have in the game. Charging for it ensures people at least think about it and that not too many players are doing it.
