Maybe that'll mean the end of Stan Lee cameo's in everything marvel. Jesus that's annoying. Get over yourself Stan. It'll be interesting to see if Disney tanks Marvel now. My bet is it will inside 5 years.
No more real violence and dark morality tales. Wolverine's claws will be made of NERF foam, and so on.

Well duh.
I mean, Marvel has been doing so well, with comic book sales declining year after year, and hasn't become mostly a stable of characters being licensed out to film production companies.

And Disney is notorious for neutering everything. I mean, look how Lost has no violence and no death. And that new Bruce Willis movie, Surrogates, will likely be as family friendly as Life Aquatic, Clerks and No Country for Old Men.

And damn, isn't it annoying how often they have Mickey and Donald announcing games on ESPN?

Stan did cameos in the comics all the way back in the 60s, so I view these as keeping true to the source. I'd miss them if they went away.

I think my two favorites are recent ones: The second Hulk where he drinks the soda, and the second FF movie where the wedding bouncer doesn't believe who he is.

Kind of amazing to think Marvel was virtually worthless 10 years ago.

I wouldn't say that. Their characters are staples of American culture. Spiderman, Xmen, Iron Man, Dare Devil, Punisher, and so forth.

Their current portfolio has worked well for girls, but they bought Marvel because they needed to target the boy demographic.

Kind of amazing to think Marvel was virtually worthless 10 years ago.

In 1997 they ran out of cash. Flat-out. They had borrowed over $100 million and ran out of that. They were within days of hanging a "closed" sign on the door and liquidating. They had so much debt that they could have been purchased for nearly nothing. They had gone bankrupt, restructured, and come out even weaker than before.

In 2001 the stock was trading under a dollar.

It was around this time that Avi Arad came in and threw a hail mary to Hollywood. It was caught, fortunately, in part due to the Spiderman film rights finally being usable (they'd been in dispute.) It took until around 2004 for Marvel to shake off all of its debt. It was still in trouble, with aggressors pretty much taking advantage of its weak situation in those years.

But, in 2001, the company was worth probably 1% of what Disney paid. It probably could have been purchased for under $100 million.
