LOTRO Welcome Back

It's Welcome Back Week for The Lord of the Rings Online as Turbine hopes to entice former subscribers to return to their Tolkien-inspired MMORPG with a free sample of its current state. They offer info on the latest content updates, links to download client patches, and 25% XP bonus. This is offered to former LOTRO players whose paid online subscriptions expired in good standing. Thanks Massively.

I have been enjoying this game since beta. There have been numerous changes made and I enjoy most of it. Hell, my friend and I even started a very successful blackberry tart business! We make money hand over fist to finance our little kinship.

hrm... was going to post something about how life must be so miserable for some, but meh. my wife and i, along with some friends enjoy this game. the welcome back events are nice gestures which ever you want to look at it. every time, we get a few more people stick around. mmo's are for entertainment, if you don't like it find something else. let others decide for themselves

very much an unremarkable eq-clone that you couldn't pay me to play again. because my time is worth more than that.

There has been no content updates for player vrs Monsterplay which is the only endgame content. Bugs and server lag issues have been
rising (getting worse) each month. Game play is still horribly skewed to the player side.
Turbine seems to actively encourage exploitation and dishonorable game play.
Few veteran players left playing regularly and what chat there is seems
be waiting for the next game out there. Does not seem to be any hope for any content additions in the future yet either.

These desperate come back and play weekends tend to occur once a month
it seems. And of course when they do there are login ques and even more horrible server lag.

I actually found this game to be soul destroying. The source material is totally unsuited to healers, nukers, and endlessly slaughtering bears, boars, and wolves but it’s all there anyway. Why? Because the developers are only interested in making a wowclone.

Even the much hyped community was very disappointing. The chat channels on Meneldor were full of people named xLegolasx talking about Warcraft. The content was polished (and very easy), but there’s no excuse for turning this license into another highly derivative MMO.

I thoroughly enjoyed the few months I spent playing this game. I was on Landroval, an official RP server that had a fantastic community and guilds and very immersive play. I enjoyed every aspect of the game to the utmost accept one;

The combat. Ugh it was just so.. so boring, no matter the class. Because advancement was tied to combat gameplay (which is unfortunately typical in most MMOGs) I left the game after only a few months. I could not go back unless they did a major overhaul to the combat gameplay or gave the game an advancement path that wasn't so focused on killing mobs.

Its to bad really, cause it's a great game otherwise with a lot of depth and a great deal of fun for any Tolkien or MMOG fan.
