Well my gable fan is finally fixed. After all that waiting, the guys didn't even
come into the house, they were able to replace it from the roof. I try not to
contemplate the consequences of them never asking me to shut off the power, as I
picture an electrocuted guy falling 30 feet from the roof to his death, but it
all worked out fine, and I'm sure I'm just being a wuss. And a hot wuss at
that, as I think I have been overestimating the impact the repaired fan could
have on such a nasty heat wave.

Its turning out to be a great year for movie fans with alot of variety emerging.

The most exercise some people get is jumping to conclusions.
On one hand it sounds practical: setup the car's computer so it only charges during periods you want: lower rates, times of day, when alternative power is being used, etc.
I just hope they have a fallback setting in there such as "If it doesn't look like my criteria are going to be met by 3AM, start recharging no matter what."
Otherwise I can see people waking up the next morning with their car not charged; perhaps because those rates are no longer available, there was a dataa error on PSE&G's side, comm issue, etc.
Granted the cars will have gas-powered generators that should get in the vicinity of Hybrid efficiency, so you *should* have enough gas in the morning to make it to the nearest gas station.
Personally I'd never leave a car like that in the garage/driveway with an empty tank... I'd want a few gallons at least. Then again I've never run out of fuel while driving.

Once again I have only high praises for Bloomkamp and his film. The guy really loves SF and I guess I havent seen a director that "gets it" this well since James Cameron.
Obviously the brilliant actors and the great story helped a great deal, but I cant wait for his next film.
Speaking of Cameron, Avatar has got its work cut out for it. Man what a graet year for SF!!!
