John Carmack Interview

John Carmack Interview Part I and Part II on GameTrailers.com offers a sit down with the id Software technical director at QuakeCon to discuss games, their upcoming RAGE in particular. Topics include progress on engine development, healthy competition in the game market, the new generation of alternate input devices, QUAKE LIVE, how he expects to still be working on games a decade from now, and more. He offers an interesting comment on PC gaming: "the tough thing about the PC market is that the market's smaller than the console market, but the standards are still very high," though he corrects himself to point out this doesn't necessarily apply to more casual PC games.

"the tough thing about the PC market is that the market's smaller than the console market, but the standards are still very high,"

We're ahead of the curve, that's all. In 5 or so years, console players will demand higher standards, too. If you look at the list of game features pioneered on PC, many of them eventually came to the consoles.
Perpetual debt is slavery.
