Fable III Announced
has the revelation some predicted when Lionhead started teasing last week. Fable
III will be an Xbox 360 exclusive planned for release in the holiday season of
2010, and there's already a

Molyneux Q&A Part Two on GamesIndustry.biz discussing the game. The announcement also reveals plans to re-release
Fable II in
five episodes. Here's why all those teases featured a revolutionary theme:
"We’ve spent a lot of time at Lionhead thinking about how we can innovate the
gameplay and progress the world of the ‘Fable’ games for its third chapter, and
we’re confident that players won’t second-guess what we have planned for ‘Fable
III,’" says Lionhead boss Peter Molyneux. "Though I can’t give too much away
right now, players should expect to have to make much tougher choices with far
wider consequences than ever before in Albion — and with many more interactive
adventure elements." The first episode of the Fable II re-release is expected on
September 29.

Hmm, I tried to love Fable, I tried to buy into the hype, but I just don't see why it's so acclaimed.
Wal-Mart threatened to drop all 360 games if Games on Demand pricing didn't exceed their own. The console companies have to be very careful how they get into digital distribution as they are far more dependent on retail sources for income than a company like Valve.
Wow, really? I guess I shouldn't be surprised. Well yes, that makes a lot of sense, if I were MS I would be much more afraid of pissing off the world's largest retailer then the kids yammering on Major Nelson's blog.

Well that was unexpected to me. Way too soon is my gut reaction to this. Dont get me wrong, I love Fable 1 and 2, but I'm not quite ready for Fable 3, even if it is holiday 2010.
The episodic release strategy for Fable 2 is absolutely disgusting. I don't see any reason to do that UNLESS the total amount for all episodes, purchased separately or together, is less or equal to the price of the disk version. And after seeing the initial pricing for Games on Demand I seriously doubt that will happen.

Yeah Fable II is an open-ish world adventure game with RPG elements.
It's not my perfect game but I don't generally assume that all games are designed with me in mind. I enjoyed it.
and +1 Jonny, buying properties and earning rents (even with the 360 off) was a good move, keeps some "work" initially then it kicks in so there is hardly any tedious grinding unless you want it.

It really did have a shit ending. A choice between a pile of gold you don't need, a load of folk you've never met and don't care about being resurrected or getting your dog back, who, even if you don't like dogs, at least performs useful functions.
Big choice, that.
Apart from that I really enjoyed Fable 2. It's fun to play with and run around and a lot of the sim-ish aspects like buying property and shops could do with being included and fleshed out in proper RPGs. When Storm of Zehir was in development I hung around the forums there asking for more indepth management of the Keep and Trading company and lots of people told me to go play the Sims because they wanted more of the tedious combat and loot collecting.

They're not really RPGs at all. They're sort of strange open world sandboxy exploration games with social/combat mechanics. I find them hilarious and amusing personally but then again I don't go into it expecting a heavy plot.
This. I liken it to an adventure game with elements of Tamagotchi virtual pets, where the goal is not to play the game how you might like to play it normally, but to play the game in different ways and see how your character turns out.
It's a fun diversion, and I enjoyed it while I played it, but it's not a particularly deep story, and it doesn't take itself very seriously.

They're already on one disc. This isn't new episodic content, it's just Fable 2 split into five chunks apparently on the off chance there's a retard market out there who'll pay massively inflated prices for a game they can pick up for cheap in a used bin.
The first episode is free but I expect every episode after to be like $10 and just chop up the main plot storylines into 5 segments. Pretty lame, I agree. That's like $10 for 2 hours max per episode of gameplay.

I found both of the previous games to be pretty terrible and I doubt this one would change my mind. For all the crap games like Mass Effect and Fallout 3 get for not being RPG enough, Fable and Fable 2 are ten times worse.

Being a ruler sounds very interesting. It's one thing that's conspicuously missing from the majority of RPG's, you're powerful, rich, charismatic and connected but still somehow sleeping in hovels and being sent to fetch people sandwiches.
