S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat Plans

bitComposer Games announces they have worldwide rights to S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat, GSC Game World's first-person shooter sequel they will publish this fall. The announcement is accompanied by new S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat screenshots, and a reminder of what to expect from the game: "S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat takes PC gamers once again into the deadly area surrounding the Chernobyl nuclear reactor explosion of 1986. Cordoned off by the military, this highly contaminated “Zone” is scoured by treasure hunters known as s.t.a.l.k.e.r.s, who search the irradiated lands for unique artifacts. In the role of Agent Alexander Degtyarev, the player must go undercover as a s.t.a.l.k.e.r., investigating the mysterious disappearance of five military helicopters while standing against various s.t.a.l.k.e.r. groups."

I believe Metro 2025 is another game from the same group or a group that broke off and is making a post apocalyptic game.

Would love to see more games like this, and looks like Borderlands and Rage are the next two on the list. So tired of D&D!

stalker series is indeed super-good, especially if you grew up with dos-based pc games.. as you are more likely to forgive bugs in light of an awesome game behind it

want more stalker, release this game

Am I the only one who wasn't overly impressed with the Stalker series?

Yeah.. this is actually a rare case. 99% of people either loved it or hated it for its bugs and flaws and design. I can't think of anyone that played it all the way through and had a "meh" response.

Congratulations, you are indeed a unique snowflake!

Where does the press release say that the game will be tagged with Games for Windows?
On the publisher's website: http://bit-composer.com/www_en/game.aspx?gameid=f4aadcf4-a26a-4ec7-ab06-e6e2f5ab05dc

Unfortunately, yes. I think what you fail to realize about this game is that the gaming industry is not on a level playing field. Take the Gear of War team, which was probably hundreds, against a game like Stalker which is under 15 people. Not a fair comparison.
Exactly. It may not have been polished but it nailed the atmosphere - the first game especially - and did a lot with the tech (dynamic weather, DX10, lighting, AI).

Looking forward to this one bugs and all.

AS far as a fall release i doubt it with GSC's track record of taking forever to get any thing out the door.

These comparisons happen to movies too where people think a movie that has a 50 million budget can compete/compare to a 1 mill budget flick. Sometimes we are pleasantly surprised when an underdog does work and beats the odds. I think Stalker is that game.

Sure it has a lot of problems, the Quality Assurance team is gone, the bugs are pretty bad, but what it does right (originality, atmosphere) hasn't been matched by any game/rpg in recent memory. Not even Fallout 3 can beat Stalker in those areas, but F3 is better selling, has a much bigger company, came from a well known IP etc.

You get the idea.

I am sure they will go with Steam again as it was a boon for this niche game.

I bought and have beaten both the Stalkers thus far and love the games. Stalker to me is one of the best game franchises ever made, warts and all. Wish more games had the balls to take risks like Stalker!

Great series of games but riddled with issues. Thank god for mods to fix the first 2 up. Hope this 3rd installment has paid attention to the mod community and made the game of proper quality this time.

There is some interesting tech behind the game, but I had to force myself to finish the last one (and apparently missed quite a bit of the game as I got the Money ending) and I thought the second game was fairly interesting in the swamps and the Zone pulses slowly killing you, but as soon as I was back into the levels of the first game I had no more interest in it.

So a new company is publishing it and it's going to be a Games For Windows title? It better still be released on Steam, otherwise I'll be very pissed off - they'd be shooting themselves in the foot not to.

Anyway, the game sounds very promising based upon what I've read so far. And if they've optimised the engine then combined with upcoming graphics cards it should finally run flawlessly when maxed out.
