Dawn Of War II Patched

The Dawn Of War II Website announces that Steam now offers the promised "There is Only War" patch for Relic's Warhammer 40K RTS sequel. They say the update is about 380 MB, and offer another link to the patch notes revealing the new version number for the game to be 1.50.

They shouldn't call this an RTS. Base building should be a part of the definition. This game is all tactical.

Dissenting opinion here. I have been playing it quite a bit and think it's great. It's not better than DoW, just different.

Exactly. It's slow, and has no strategic variety to speak of. This game seems to have done everything on the opposite side of what the original dow did. It's fun if one likes to play cat and mouse using 3 or 4 units, chasing each other around the points for the entire game.

Every game plays out the same after tier2 since there just aren't enough options to choose from.

Relic has been putting a great deal of effort into supporting this game, but I'd rather them just forget about dow2 and get a move on to dow3(or just get back to patching dow1). This game needs much more than just balance fixes.

Tried the demo. Tried all the lowest settings. Runs terrible on my ThinkPad T60 -- Core Duo 2ghz / ATI X1400. Granted it probably shouldn't run well but L4D, C&C 3, RA3, all run great on my system on medium settings. Why even on lowest settings is this game such a system hog?

Well the lag I don't think that can be fixed.

Well, apparently the game's design imparts unnecessary lag because there is no true client/server system so one so computer will slow them all down.

While you are correct that lag can't be truly fixed, bad net code can cause lag-like problems and that's what I was asking about. That's why I quoted the patch fix line:

Fixed a networking bug that caused users to lag

Right there. The networking bug caused lag. So I'm wondering if they actually fixed the bug or are just trying to sweep the issue under the rug and claim it is fixed when it isn't.

Sigh, so much still broken. Turrets seem to own everything (they can be defeated but they don't belong in tier 1 without an better counter), tempo of the game is still slow, you spend way too much time healing and waiting for points to build a bigger army. Game feels painfully slow all the time. It just never picks up and gets fun.

I feel like I'm playing chess with 3 pieces. You have these long periods of time where very little happens. And good lucky gaining the points to use super weapon, was fun when those were useful.

Well the lag I don't think that can be fixed. If someone has a shitty connection and/or a slow computer and they jack up their graphical settings, it will lag the game for everyone.
Then those people shouldn't be connected to people with decent connections and appropriate graphical settings. Simple. Instead it screws up the game for everyone.

• Fixed a networking bug that caused users to lag and disconnect due to a proxy communication problem

So does this patch fix all/most of the lag/disconnect issues?
