Lots of Jumpgate Beta Testers

Codemasters and NetDevil announce that a quarter of a million players have signed up to test Jumpgate Evolution, the upcoming space MMORPG remake. "We have thoroughly enjoyed obtaining some valuable feedback from the people in our Friends & Family test, helping us to take the next major step towards launch," says Scott Brown, President of NetDevil, though they are not specifying when the beta will progress beyond Friends & Family access. On a related topic, there's a new Jumpgate Evolution interview on MMORPG.COM.

They delayed this game months based on "friends and family" beta testers. Imagine how bad the game must be if friends and family are telling you that your game sucks.

My hopes are on Black Prophecy.

I was on the alpha- it's marketed as 'elite as an MMO' but in fact it's 'quake in space'. Or more accurately, 'descent with some MMO aspect'. Disappointing.

I signed up for the beta in, oh, June 2007. Then in July 2008 I get an email stating they had joined up with Codemasters and I would have to sign up again for the beta at the new, updated and improved website. I did so. Then a few months ago I got ANOTHER email saying, yet again, I would have to sign up for the beta. Again.
I didn't, because at this point I no longer believe the beta exists, and no longer care to be in it.

It just shows how many bored gameplayers are out there atm. Goddamn publishers have to stop saving all the releases for Xmas. Any good game released at any point in time is going to sell well. Yet good games competing with several others released together aren't going to sell as well as people only have X amount of dollars to blow at any one time.
