They're zombies. How intelligent do you expect them to be?
Xombie:
I never said anything about them being intelligent. I'm talking about AI.
Heheheheheh....
Xombie you are the stupidest fucking troll ive seen in a long time, and ive seen quite a few believe me.
AI is short for Artificial INTELLIGENCE....Dumbass...
So if something is intelligent or stupid and its created bye man, its called Artificial.

The alpha is pretty polished. It has enemy placement, scripted events. You can tell that a lot of it is going to make it into the final release. They aren't going to scrap 2 years of work, which is what the alpha represents.

Its still an UN-FINISHED product, And yes SOME of the things in it ARE going into the FINISHED product, which doesnt mean that EVERYTHING youve seen will be exactly the same as in the game, and NO the PRE-alpha does NOT (note the CAPS ) and I repeat DOES NOT represent 2 (spelled TWO) years of work, its basically something that was designed to SHOWCASE the technology & the game at the EXPO last year. The TWO years that you are talking about have gone into developing the engine itself and the tools for building the game itself.
As for buying D3 or not, thats up to you....Wait for the Doom3 demo, and then decide whether its got soul, or not.

Erm, there is one thing that is bugging me about Doom3's game engine. From what Ive read about it, it seems its quite time consuming just making the levels for it, every single object, or even wall has to be modeled and then textured, then bump mapped. It seems that this is the primary reason that Doom3 is going to be on the shortish side. This is also a worry for the modding community, I really hope that Id releases some of its Map-making tools along with the game. Theyve said that anything and everything can be done with the console in game, while playing the game, but I cant see how this is possible.

I thought I'd settle this once and for all, so I flew round the world really quickly, like Superman and went forward in time. I bought Doom3, HL2, DX2 and even STALKER, but I had a drivers issue with Windows 2005. I think it needs a service pack :/

So.....are you gonna tell us which of the games rules, and what all the hype was about?????.....:)

From what I've played (the alpha), it's a lot closer in spirit to Quake 2. It's lacking a soul and doesn't feel like a Doom game at all. You can see what they're working towards even though it's unfinished, and it's not Doom.

Actually, the only conclusions that you can make from playing the Pre-Alpha that was leaked a while ago are that:
1st. The graphics engine looks phenomenal (even though its quite buggy and unoptimised in this pre-alpha phase)
2nd. Its obvious that its completely unfinished and that you cant draw any other conclusions other then the 1st one.

And of course it doesnt have a soul, for Christ's sake that was a pre-alpha, how can something thats not even 5% finished have a soul, its like playing through the start level of Quake 1 and saying "man does this game suck or what, where are all the bad guys, and why does my shotgun look like a badly drawn baseball bat"....

Previews. That's what we're going on now. If you don't wish to discuss things based on previews, then I suggest you bother yourself more with topics that have to do with released games.

This is exactly the problem, youre taking assumptions written in previews as if they were fact. There has been a lot of talk about the superior game innovations in HL2 and DX2.... Well I remember a preview I read about a game a few years ago (PC Gamer issue: 33 or 34) The game in question was Quake 1. The prewiew hyped the game so much it was mostly unbelievable, so when the game actually came out I was still quite impressed. ( I never took what was written in the preview for granted. ) But there were a lot of people that were scarred for life, and never bought an Id software game again...:)
This time around Id is not making the same mistake, theyve show what the game engine is capable of and theyve stated in general terms what the gameplay will be like. There is no hype, there is no overexagaration. I think they know that their game is going to sell for what it is. A pure blooded Horror FPS.

Actually... Half Life, Counterstrike, Team Fortress, and Opposing Force.

Actually, Half Life is the ONLY game originally developed bye Valve. Counterstrike & Opposing Force are both very good mods, made by the community. And Team Fortress was a mod originally designed for ....guess what?...:)... Quake 1.

AVP2 seemed to have a more dynamic, unprdictable feel.

Erm, AVP2 is heavily scripted too. Every single encounter was scripted unlike AVP1 where the Aliens would spawn quite randomly in certain areas. So very cool stuff can be done if the scripting is good.

Try this month's issues of CGW and PC Gamer. That's what I meant when I said "the articles in CGM and PC Gamer". As mentioned on Blues News on April 22, and every single video game forum on the internet.

You keep on quoting these so called "previews" as if they knew EXACTLY how the games they were writing about are going to turn out. Instead of keeping an open mind you blindly accepted this HYPE, and you have to face it its all hype and speculation at this point about all three games at this point D3, HL2, DX2. So far Ive seen 3 screenshots of HL2 and 5 screenshots of DX2. And Ive seen the expo presentation of D3. And Ive played the leaked test version of D3. (sorry couldnt help myself and so far its the most impressive looking and atmospheric experience in even this early pre-alpha phase that Ive experienced for a long time. But that doesnt mean the actual game will be good, because I form my oppinions based on REVIEWS (not previews), and actuall personal experience. So untill all three games come out we can all cry and whine all we want, (thats you Xombie) or we can have intelligent arguments where we can all discuss what we know SO FAR. And thats very little at this point.

Technicaly JK2, wasnt really a true FPS anyway. I mean once I got my lightsabre I mostly played in third person.
Why do you start with the lightsabre in JKAcademy? I mean isnt the whole point to earn it. And why should I use any of the other weapons anyway? Since the sabre is the best.

You know what.....?
If ID made a complete remake of Doom2, exactly the same monsters, levels, cheesy storyline, etc. etc. but they used the new engine, this remake would be more fun to play than any so called FPS out there. And I would buy it.
And I would play it. Even if it didnt have mouse look.

Oh and one other thing, I have nothing against the US trying to police the world, I think that it is the ideal country for it since it is the most powerfull country in the world. What bothers me is that its more like a corrupt cop on the beat rather than an honest one. It "protects" only the countries that can provide "protection money" (as in Iraqi oil), and even though thats a good thing for the Iraqi people, I guess the countless African countries are going to have to overthrow their blood-sucking dictators bye themselves.

The whole "I hate Bush" or "I love Bush" is rather pointless, to me anyway. The real problem is the system.
If you look at the US political system, you will find that it isnt really a democracy in the traditional sense. Its basicaly a corporate dictatorship.
I mean you have 2 parties which dont really differ from each other in any meaningfull way. Then you have a nation who votes not out of political or social reasons, they vote for whovever has the better PR, so the person who spends the most money on his/hers campaing wins. This person can be anyone as long as they are willing to go the corporate way.
This is basically how it goes:
Bush wants to become president.
Bush promises oil companies "mucho" Arab oil in the future.
Oil companies provide lots of money for campaing.
Bush nearly loses, but with more "corporate" money buys himself a few more thousand votes in florida.
Bush gets elected president.
September 11th.
Bush's ratings go sky high. (Lucky for him eh?)
Bush invents weapons of mass destruction in Iraq.
Bush invades and conquers Iraq. (Ooops no weapons found)
Get ready to Pump that Oil!!!

See my point?

Good post Chance. Youre right there is no point in arguing about which game is going to be better, Doom3 or Half-Life2 or DX2 or whatever, we just dont know. All we know is that Doom3 looks like it has the best visuals bye far, and all credits to Carmack for that. People like Xombie will beat up on Id due to the fact that they were never into any of its games, or never learnt the value of the shaft in multiplayer, or are jealous of John C's engine creation abilities or whatever....For all i know Half-Life 2 will be 1000x better than Doom3 but right now Im looking forward to seeing both games in action, and then forming an oppinion.
