I hope they patch the problems leading to corrupted save game files. I had to restart from an earlier save point after repeatedly crashing. It was one of the stupid "follow X person around" for an hour type quests. Blah. Like I want to do that again.

It's the same level of support they gave to the first Galactic Civilizations game, too. They just kept adding more and more to the game. They really listen to their customers and try and be proactive in adding new features and gameplay.

The AI is so devilishly clever sometimes, it's hard to believe.

I played the game for a while, and found it amusing enough. However, I really wanted to try out the sandbox mode. And, unfortunately, I thought it was lacking. The more I tried to make a movie, the more I felt limited by the scene selection. Just finding the right scenes became a chore, then finding scenes to go with each other became a bigger chore. It's like I was making a movie on rails: whenever I wanted to get off the rails, the whole thing would fall apart.

They should have just canned the game part and concentrated on the free-form movie making.

I just hope there's a "turn blood and dismemberment on" switch. And a career mode from puppy to old age.

Now, instead of getting ganked by stealthed infiltrators in Dark Age of Camelot or backstabbed by invisible rogues in World of Warcraft, you can get killed by invisible stalkers in City of Villains.

This definitely saved me $50. Just like the first one, there's maybe 10 minutes of actual gameplay repeated ad naseum. It reminds me of the old Diablo clone, Darkstone.

But the graphics aren't all that great (come on, at least offer me a 1600x1200 option), the gameplay is as boring as the first games, and the plot seems ripped off straight from Tolkien. You know, if the game's setup needs three cinematics, there's probably something wrong.

I was hoping for something a little more interesting that the first game, so it is disappointing.

While playing their flagship characters is likely to not happen, there are certain expectations of the two games: basically, that you could actually create any of their creations.

City of Heroes can play the waiting game much better; there's no expectations, so they can introduce powers along the way. With DC and Marvel, though, the fanboys will complain if they can't make a reasonable facsimile of Tigra or Son of Vulcan.

So game players are so stupid now that they need everything laid out for them before the thing is released?

That's like saying: we just released Zork 2, and we know you gamers always feel a little intimidated when we release a new Zork game, so here are some walkthroughs to get you started.

I want to play an Old Testament game, where, like God, I can kill anyone including innocent people, simply because I can.

I played a few games, but the only real challenge was memorizing the dancing cues. It is a really fun game, but with very little depth.

He was a Fifth Column villain! Quick, smack him!

Then why ship that many copies? I mean, really, if you don't know if your servers can handle 200,000 people, then maybe you shouldn't ship 500,000 copies? This is like Diablo 2 all over again.

This is exactly why I don't play Wow (well, besides the fact they aren't really selling it anymore), and why I've been wary of Blizzard since the Diablo 2 days. They weren't able to run a much simpler MO game without security issues and downtime problems.

"Yeah, but they removed 5th Column to put in the Council because of the crybabies that couldn't handle the standard comic reference to nazis."

Actually, the 5th Column is still around, getting their butts kicked by the Council. At least they are coming up with a game mechanic to explain the conversion of the 5th Column.

That's an interesting way to add content: closer to a pay as you play model, in some respects. Of course, it all depends on the price point.

On the other hand, City of Heroes is on its 3rd free expansion, and each one adds a lot more to the mix.

Yeah, this is a really bad time for them to be sticking it to their customers (despite the fact that it does bring their price in line with most new MMORPGS).

I recently cancelled my Camelot accounts: it wasn't a bad game, just that the ultimate goal keeps moving: level 50 became level 50 with uber stuff. In a PVP game, that means if you aren't getting the uber stuff, you are at a disadvantage in the endgame.

I think with the pressure of Worlds of Warcraft, Everquest 2, and City of Heroes, it is a really bad time to be charging more. I mean, even Anarchy Online realized that.

They probably wanted to avoid the embarassment of it winning Best Game awards over Halo 2.
