Mozilla and Google force businesses to use Internet Explorer |

It is really a whole different mindset. Using Mozilla or Chrome forces you to think about future-proofing your development projects rather than constantly trying to support legacy code. Unfortunately, IE for years has forced people to use hacks and quirky behavior to get things to work. Now the big organizations that have thousands of users are stuck with it. IE6 is dead as far as I'm concerned, and IE7 in just about there as well. |

Ah, yes. The game that made me buy a 3d card.
I was a bit behind the curve, as I didn't get my first 3d card until Quake 2, but Quake was the game that brought me to Blues News. |

Seems like FF4 just came out of beta last week. I guess they're following the Chrome method of versioning. And in keeping with Firefox's longstanding "every other release is a dud" trend, I'm expecting 5 to be worth trying (4 was shit, especially in Windows). |

Windows 8 |

The only things I care about in the next version of Windows:
1. Stop requiring the user to have to drag a scroll bar or select an item in a window before it can be scrolled. This one has been annoying me since '95 (although back then they offered a powertoys extension to fix it).
2. Fix the tooltip z-indexing issue. Sometimes tooltips are obscured by the taskbar, sometimes they show through other windows. This bug has also been around for ages.
3. Stop making the control panel more convoluted each release. KISS! |

The graphics, physics, and just about everything else in Duke Nukem Forever belong in 2003. As is expected of a console game. |

The original Quake was one of the best games ever made, and following its development is what got me coming to Blues News way back in the day.
The Strogg themes were good, but they didn't beat the original creepy monsters, otherworldly dungeons and atmospheric music of Quake I. Its hard not to get nostalgic about a remake, but it's also important to keep in mind that remakes never recapture the essence of the original. |

They were doing better when the game was not released. The whole point of Duke Nukem Forever was that it was never going to be anything other than vapourware. |

A photo of those crows perched in the dead birch would make a good background for the website header "All the carnage that's fit to post" |

I always LOL at how much people piss and moan when one of these major web sites does a redesign. I have never used Netflix so I don't have a comparison, but whenever Twitter or Youtube has done it in the past, it has generally resulted in a slightly improved user experience, but people complain. When Facebook moves 1 pixel it makes front page on CNN and people complain about it for weeks. |

I don't need to be a financial adviser to know that this is a really bad investment. They'd be better off buying into (subprime) mortgage backed securities. Myspace is worth squat, and in the future it is more than likely to be worth less than squat.
which will likely be for under $100 million Better be an order of magnitude under $100 million. |

It's going to be 98 here tomorrow. I was going to go to the observatory tonight, but threat of thunderstorms made me decide not to. It looks like last weekend was THE good weekend of the season. Transparency well above normal and 2 solid clear nights. I wish I hadn't wasted Monday now. Ah well, unsettled for the next several days, then its Full Moon again. At least I got in some good viewing and saw the supernova in the Whirlpool Galaxy. Some good imaging too, got this shot of the Milky Way: http://www.flickr.com/photos/30623046@N08/5802193149/in/photostream/lightbox/ |
