My first impressions are good! I played for a couple of hours last night with my Oculus and it was fantastic. As someone that didn’t like the first PCars because of the crappy career mode, you would think that the I would have jumped into the new career early, but I didn’t. What I did was try my Logitech G27 with and without the Rift and both experiences were excellent. PCars 2 did a good job setting up the graphic performance based on my computer specs, so I didn’t futz with the settings much. I’m sure I will after I’ve had more time with the game though. The game auto-sensed my G27 wheel, so I just calibrated it in the game, added a button to reset the cockpit view and was off. I did not have to make any FFB tweaks either, which was a pleasant surprise.
The only changes I made from the defaults were to remove the helmet cam and jack up the Super Sampling from 1.0 to 2.0. The game looked a little blurry in my Rift when set to 1.0.
When launching the game from Steam, you can either launch normally, or select an option to boot into the Oculus or Vive mode.
Racing wise, I raced in a grid of 16 cars at Bathurst (Porsche 911 GT3, the road B one), Daytona with a full grid of stock cars, a rallycross in the rain and a point-to-point at the Azure Coast in the rain (Mercedes-Benz CLK). The last two in the rain were pretty impressive with huge rooster-tails spraying out behind the cars in from of me on the Azure coast.
I peeked in on the multi-player side of things and saw that there were options for dedicated servers and p2p but didn't make the time to race online.
I plan to look in on the career mode tonight.
