Blue... Have you looked into Optimum online? The only reason I mention this is that my speed, somewhere South of you in Westchester, is 1MB up/10 MB down. It's $40 a month and the speed is amazing. All the xDSL services I've tried didn't even go above 750/1500.

Is it Morrowind boring or is it Freelancer boring?

I like one type of "boring" but I hate the other... I just want to know how they compares to EVE online.

I won't knock the game yet, but Jesus -- who came up with that title?? lol.

Either the Bush adminstration or the Pentagon. This game title would seamlessly blend into a current CNN/Fox/MSNBC story. No doubt that was the intent.

Since when did someone start a holding a chainsaw from the throttle? And what's that little "bar" he's holding onto, I certainly hope it isn't the starter rope.

Come on guys... get in the field for a day with a chainsaw before you pretend to model it in a game.

12. Re: Judge File-swapping tools are legal Apr 26, 2003, 16:18 Nimh

It's a bit different guys. Everyone and there mother knows these programs are made to make public file sharing so easy an idiot could do it. And this isn't so people can share there cooking secrets.

If you use the car analogy then it would be like making a car with guns and saying that it's up to the owner to not fire the guns mounted on the car. The fact of the matter is that we all know what these programs are used for. We, those who create IP, just need to find a way to secure ourselves from those networks and those theifs.

I doubt that'll happen anytime soon but here's hoping.

A couple points...

Ad-aware wouldn't even be known if it wasn't for the holes in IE. Do you IE users know what Ad-aware is? I kinda think you do.

I've used Phoenix for the past year and the latest builds of it are of top notch quality. The reasons I like it are...

1. Open Source
2. Image blocking (ad blocking)
3. Java screening/blocking
4. tabbed browsing and tabbed homepage
5. 100% HTML standard compliant, unlike IE.
6. No activeX, or .net/passport crap.
7. No pop ups
8. Built in google bar.
9. No need to install Ad-aware

But in the end... Different strokes for different folks.

News Comments > Fire Chief Announced

10. Re: Yeah, Fire Chief Sim Apr 17, 2003, 11:16 Nimh

You get to sit around on your ass, go to various city council meetings to beg for money, and use workers that should be renovating the fire house to build a pool in your backyard, all while fudging budget estimates and organizing rallies to prevent the city from cutting your budget by invoking the heroic sacrifices of your brethren firefighters who died on Sept. 11th due to mismanaged communications.

Yeah, I'd buy that game.

You live in NY also?

1. 1503 review Apr 3, 2003, 13:12 Nimh

Check out that 1503 review. The editor went through and mocked his own reviewer. He even chopped parts out. Pretty classy guy.

I'd hate to see him get his hands on a Simcity review. After he finished chopping it up it would be a one paragragh whine fest.

I guess it's a "fill-in-the-blank Planet.com" site so it's not too surprizing.

4. Re: IL-2 Forgotten Battles Mar 12, 2003, 15:18 Nimh

Pffftt... UI my ass. If you had to enter your options in DOS to play IL2 it would still be the best simulator out there.

I think the reviewer is coming from a FPS perspective. A flight simulator is about "simulation", get it? Nothing's wrong with a spirited CS match but it's certainly not a simulator.

LOMAC is being made by another Russian developer, not Maddox games (IL2). LOMAC is made by the same house that made Flanker.

IL2 is very much a combat game.

3. Re: IL2 Mar 8, 2003, 19:51 Nimh

Ummm... It's actually much harder than IL2. It's why I like it, but I understand others don't. No problem.

IL2 always had fully 3D citys and so does FB. FB ups the resolution on many textures and tweaks the engine for high altitude flying. It looks and feels really good.

One nice thing about IL2-FB is that it offers two pages of difficulty settings. So you can make it as easy or hard as you like. One downfall is that the online community usually revolves around the hardest settings so it can be difficult for a Lite player to join in.

It's the best aircraft simulator ever and if that's your thing you'll be very happy with it.

The Nimo codec pack is bad news. It installs a bunch of outdated/conflicting codecs on your system and can actually cause many more problems than it's worth. Word to the wise.

Wow... I noticed that also. In the CIA level I nailed a guy at point blank range with a stun wheel thingy. He hit the floor, got up and walked the away like nothing happened!?!

The AI is pretty good I think, but it has some weird glitches. I held a guy hostage while another guy chased me. I backed into some shadows and the chaser just turned around and left. The "just-let-him-go" AI has problems with the alertness level.
