15. Re: Opera spyware Apr 22, 2003, 12:18 Nimh

A couple points...

Ad-aware wouldn't even be known if it wasn't for the holes in IE. Do you IE users know what Ad-aware is? I kinda think you do.

I've used Phoenix for the past year and the latest builds of it are of top notch quality. The reasons I like it are...

1. Open Source
2. Image blocking (ad blocking)
3. Java screening/blocking
4. tabbed browsing and tabbed homepage
5. 100% HTML standard compliant, unlike IE.
6. No activeX, or .net/passport crap.
7. No pop ups
8. Built in google bar.
9. No need to install Ad-aware

But in the end... Different strokes for different folks.

News Comments > Fire Chief Announced
10. Re: Yeah, Fire Chief Sim Apr 17, 2003, 11:16 Nimh

You get to sit around on your ass, go to various city council meetings to beg for money, and use workers that should be renovating the fire house to build a pool in your backyard, all while fudging budget estimates and organizing rallies to prevent the city from cutting your budget by invoking the heroic sacrifices of your brethren firefighters who died on Sept. 11th due to mismanaged communications.

Yeah, I'd buy that game.

You live in NY also?

1. 1503 review Apr 3, 2003, 13:12 Nimh

Check out that 1503 review. The editor went through and mocked his own reviewer. He even chopped parts out. Pretty classy guy.

I'd hate to see him get his hands on a Simcity review. After he finished chopping it up it would be a one paragragh whine fest.

I guess it's a "fill-in-the-blank Planet.com" site so it's not too surprizing.

Old News Ryan. That HardOCP story is a Wednesday story. The 3.2 drivers were release Thursday afternoon.

Extra soup for me!

Pffftt... UI my ass. If you had to enter your options in DOS to play IL2 it would still be the best simulator out there.

I think the reviewer is coming from a FPS perspective. A flight simulator is about "simulation", get it? Nothing's wrong with a spirited CS match but it's certainly not a simulator.

LOMAC is being made by another Russian developer, not Maddox games (IL2). LOMAC is made by the same house that made Flanker.

IL2 is very much a combat game.

3. Re: IL2 Mar 8, 2003, 19:51 Nimh

Ummm... It's actually much harder than IL2. It's why I like it, but I understand others don't. No problem.

IL2 always had fully 3D citys and so does FB. FB ups the resolution on many textures and tweaks the engine for high altitude flying. It looks and feels really good.

One nice thing about IL2-FB is that it offers two pages of difficulty settings. So you can make it as easy or hard as you like. One downfall is that the online community usually revolves around the hardest settings so it can be difficult for a Lite player to join in.

It's the best aircraft simulator ever and if that's your thing you'll be very happy with it.

Nice IL-2 Forgotten Battles review.

I've had it for the past 5 days and I couldn't agree more.

Isn't that like taking a jet engine and strapping it to Model-T?

The Nimo codec pack is bad news. It installs a bunch of outdated/conflicting codecs on your system and can actually cause many more problems than it's worth. Word to the wise.

Or you could just delete the cookie and look at some more..

Or... Use Mozilla and select "never accept a cookie from this site". Then you can surf IGN until the end of time.

6. Re: Patch already!?!? Feb 20, 2003, 23:40 Nimh

Wow... I noticed that also. In the CIA level I nailed a guy at point blank range with a stun wheel thingy. He hit the floor, got up and walked the away like nothing happened!?!

The AI is pretty good I think, but it has some weird glitches. I held a guy hostage while another guy chased me. I backed into some shadows and the chaser just turned around and left. The "just-let-him-go" AI has problems with the alertness level.

It's not scripted for the story, but the "entrance" itself may be scripted with regard to character movements. I'll look into it further.

1. ??? Feb 20, 2003, 16:41 Nimh

I started playing this last night and I got to the office area where they bust into the office to come get you. Anyway... the dead guard in that room had a single grenade (first grenade I hope in the game). I decided to use it on the people running through the door... The grenade landed 12" from those dopes and it didn't hurt them?!?! They just walked in the room like it never occured.

Has anyone else had grenades that don't work? (in the PC version)

Just contact Ubisoft tech support. They can really help with regard to this issue.

You did say it was Clinton's poor intelligence. I think you meant it was the CIA's poor intelligence. No big deal, you didn't know.

Head shot is lethal, regardless of alert status. The gun accuracy is rather poor. This forces you to get really close before firing. I think this was a good decission by the developer. It makes it a stealth game (which was the intent BTW)
