If you look at character acting you are certainly onto something. A lot of people can grow tired of character actors over time. How many Rambo/Rocky movies did we really need? Method acting is different, and a talented method actor should always be interesting to watch.

I'm not sure about the lasting effects on politics. I've always found social media to offer such a sanitized and low effort view of the world, compared to the nuance of a conversation over beers per say. Some people will only talk in memes and talking points, but these are usually the dullards of the group anyway.

The Global Village article is interesting. It lends scientific backbone to the old saying that familiarity breeds contempt (different context, but quite similar).

Blue, Keep a notebook of all discussions, requests, quotes, and payments made (listed by time/date). We are in the final stages of the same ordeal and it's amazing how unclear a simple punch list can end up being.

We had a dog that did this when we were moving once. It was only spritzes though, not full on peeing. I think some dogs don't react well to their entire world being boxed up and shifted around. After the move was complete everything was fine again.

It certainly didn't help the moving stress to be finding wet spots around the house as you're trying to clean up.

If you have a realtor lined up try asking them for a contractor recommendation. Most have a short list of contractors they work with for repairs like this.

Google products are not a privacy option. Maybe if you chrooted the chromebook and installed a non-cloud connected, non-phone home option.

I did more reading on it.. apparently P2 data privacy rules still apply. It seems the main thing it does is allow your ISP to be like Google/Facebook now. (which still sorta sucks because using Googlebook is a choice, chosing an ISP much less so)

What's that? Are you referring to the UK's Data Protection Act?

It was basically saying that the data is scrubed of personal info per law. So I assume you become client #123456, who likes peanut butter, NASCAR and watches porn videos at 7:42 each Satuday. (not really a big difference, and you can still be targeted, just not by name/address. For now.)

Here's more on PII.. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Personally_identifiable_information

Ah, I remember the good old days of railing against lobbyist Tom Wheeler when he first started and him turning out to be a pretty good consumer advocate. Thanks Obama!

No chance of that happening with ex-Verizon lawyer Ajit fucking Pai at the helm. We never knew how good we had it.

Corporations, FTW.

I remember thinking he was an awful appointment. Glad to say I was wrong.

It's kind of remarkable how fast it's all being undone.

Is it just me or does this seem to really have far reaching implications? I mean now there is a physical name and address connected to everything your household generates online, and that is saved, bundled, parsed, and sold. So RIAA, MPAA? No problem. Even stuff like wholesale blackmail seems trival now, just buy a 1000 user records and send the porn users a pay-up or else letter.

HTTPS is a bit of a firewall, but really not much. And they will probably pull a Facebook/Google and pretend nothing is different and that "sharing with our partiners helps improve our service" EULA type bullshit.

Am I missing something?

The Like Button article was fascinating, thanks for posting it.

Is it any coincidence that the race to the bottom in media—toward clickbait headlines, toward the vulgar and prurient and dumb, toward provocative but often exaggerated takes—has accelerated in lock-step with the development of new technologies for measuring engagement?

Ok, seriously now, why hasn't anyone brought antitrust charges against MS at this point.

For what? The version those old cpus shipped with still run fine on the old cpus--it's just that they will no longer be updated.

Considering MS's track record with updates lately.. not a necessarily a bad thing.

Lifeless, ME3 has way better looking facial animations. Bioware is really flopping over. Ever since they let themselves be bought out they have gone down the tubes.

I'm not sure what people were expecting after ME3. Probably one of the worst written games in recent history. but yeah, facial animations.. we'll always have those.

Wow, Ryzen just demolishes on multithreaded applications, and at half the comparable Intel price (and this is without a windows driver or UEFI update)?!?

Glad to see AMD back.

Our Newburgh phone line received a phone call the other day. We were not there to pick up, but the caller ID email said it was from the correctional facility in Goshen. About 30 minutes later our phone provider called with instructions to unlock voice calls from correctional facilities. I guess it's a common scam.

I don't see RPG's back in a big way.. when we look forward, what do we really have? Torment 2 and PoE2, I guess, and Mass Effect 4. And aside that?

Shadowrun, Divinity: Original Sin, Pillars of Eternity are all quite decent RPG's in the old school style.
