How did you report that? "Boss, can't come to work today. I have a serious case of Battletechitis."

Technically, I didn't. There was a conference this week, my team lead went, along with my manager, my director, and two of my teammates. I told the other guy who stayed back that I'd probably work from home the next day. He didn't want details, I didn't give them. GI issues can be like that.

Gaming Impulse issues?

I jumped into it last night a little. The game play, story telling, and art direction is excellent. The 3d graphics are quite janky for a 2018 title.

Too much Ibuprophen is bad, but nowhere near as bad as too much Acetaminophen.

The dangers of both of those are they're ototoxic and ibuprofen in particular can really spike your blood pressure dangerously high depending on your genetics. I found that out the hard way. I was prescribed prescription strength ibuprofen once for pain and it was pushing my BP over 200. So I got yanked off that PDQ. If you have to take those or aspirin always do so sparingly and as minimally as possible.

You have high blood pressure all the time. Not even a doctor and I can tell you that.

There was an Army study a while ago on expired meds., they concluded that medications still worked well past the expiration date, but sometimes with slightly lowered efficacy.

This cold season was rough. Our toddler made sure to bring it all home between November and December, and it laid me out for a solid two months of various sniffle/cough/hack/fever fun. It all promptly started the weekend after our family flu shots.

Well they managed to ruin one game that should have been easy. I suppose they can ruin a new Bioshock game just as easily too.

Bioshock was ruined two games ago.. they are just adding to the pile now.

I'm enjoying it.. I wish it had a survival mode (sparser resources and less encounters) like Primal, but otherwise good.

Let me guess: Bezos did not pay anything/enough to support Trump's campaign? Or Trump (or some of his supporters) did invest in a competitor of Amazon?

On the other hand: it would be amazing if not only Amazon, but also other big companies like Apple, Microsoft, Google, et al. would pay fair taxes - as all US citizens should do. This way a general health insurance and general pension insurance could easily be financed which would be a nice step forward from the 1800s pioneer (take whatever you can - screw the other people) idea to the 1900s (together we are stronger and better).

Bezos owns WaPo.

There's really one thing I want to know.

What was the disinformation?

Should be easy enough to supply the actual posts - because in my experience Russia has been publicising information from Wikileaks documentation - which has a 100% correct 100% of the time track record - through things like RT.

I'd like to know if we're seeing those sort of things - which would be rightly dubbed information, or if we're seeing nonsense - which would be disinformation.

Right now I've been seeing all sorts of claims, but I've yet to see examples of the actual posts.

I sure HAVE seen misinformation during the election - but from a PR company Hillary's camp hired that did a very poor job covering their tracks (buying up lapsed domains, failing to successfully anonymise the domain transfers, creating junk fed clickbait sites, then publicising attack stuff against Trump that was literally fake news that somehow got trended in Facebook despite Alexa showing the sites had zero traffic...)

You answered your own question.

@Beamer
The main reason plane flight is safer today is because of federal regulations.

And we all know how much Silicone Valley loves regulations (i.e. don't count on it).

FYI - use a small SSD as your boot drive (around 20-30Gb), where Win 10 resides, then top it off with any files. Win 10 updates need at least 8GB free space or it will not install, so it will just nag you every time you boot up to make space.

LTSB has been working well in that regard as well. Love the Stanley avatar by the way, really need to rewatch the series one of these days.

Dang, I really wanna play this game more but dang I don't wanna play this game more.

Man.. This comment perfectly encapsulates this game.

The game is gorgeous, full stop. But the game-play loops are so awful. Maybe it comes down to the limitations of their instancing system. Whatever it is, it's really bad.

On the forums they're talking about 3.0 materials collecting. Apparently you go to one planetary base to collect materials and just log out and log in to replenish the supply of rare items. This is so typical of Elite Dangerous "game-play".

PDF is such a shit show of a format that it trips up most users. Especially if you are attempting to swap data between software suites, etc. Adobe in it's vast incompetence actually did the US public a solid on this one!

If more ppl would vote with their wallet, we would not have this kind of issue, however, having a label "loot box alert" attached to the game would be a small step in recognizing that this mechanic is a problem.

The crux of the problem is this entire scummy fake currency system big publishers (but really, mainly EA, Activision and Ubisoft) have setup. There is a reason lootboxes are considered gambling, since you often can't even pay for them with direct money transfer, there is always 1 more step involved which detaches you from the payment, and especially for younger people this is a huge problem. And just like casinos give you chips for money, EA gives you fake money for real money that THEN lets you buy loot boxes. Why are casinos gambling if loot boxes aren't?

You forgot Valve.. the godfather of loot boxes.

The Agile manifesto has ruined silicon valley. Testing? Pffft.. ship now, patch later.

Uh, test-driven development is kind of integral to Agile.

Yup, tested by the consumer.

A) Again, Test-Driven Development (TDD) is integral to Agile methodologies. Typically, TDD (in Agile or otherwise) loops tightly and iteratively between writing tests until production code fails, and writing code until it passes tests again. TDD isn't perfect, but it's generally agreed to be superior to the alternative of having graduated phases of design, implementation, and testing, wherein testing doesn't happen until after you're ostensibly done implementing the software.

B) Apple's software engineering practices are still very 90s big corporation-y, according to my colleagues who are former Apple engineers. That means low test-coverage, heavy middle management overhead, and fixed designs and deadlines. In other words, the embodiment of practices that the Agile Manifesto sought to fight against.

While some aspects of Apple may still be managed in that fashion, the trend has been new feature roll-out at the expense of testing (silicon base ring + wood example).

Anyway, it all comes down to implementation, and for some industries its required more than others. The heavy hitters have been dropping the ball, period.
