A bit of a change of topic, but I figured I'd warn folks off of a product that I recently bought and expected to really like:

http://www.cyberpowerpc.com/system/SYBER_VAPOR_K

It's a Cyberpower Steam machine with i7 and a GTX970 - looks great and I ordered one for my kids and me, for gaming on the TV. Only thing is, the cooling on this thing is woeful and the PSU is only 450W, Mine blew up about an hour after I turned it on, and has now been RMA'd.

I may just harvest the replacement for parts, or exchange or return it. Apparently other buyers are having similar issues.

Nice to see the Jets snatch defeat from the jaws of victory yet again. I followed them all season and thought they were pretty gutsy, but they just had to pull off their old tricks on that final day...

Sad about Lemmy. Saw him live one time back in 1982 at The Palace in Hollywood, CA, with Krokus.

I sent links to that in as well this morning. One of my favorite bands - I have 19 of their albums (!). I started listening to them in 1985 and have never stopped. Only saw them once, and regret not going to their recent show at Jones Beach which apparently was great.

RIP Lemmy. Rock god, and musical choice of evil overlords everywhere.

The Nexus Mods breach appears to be real. I know a couple of people who use Nexus Mods, whose email addresses were locked by their institution's IT department over the weekend as a precaution.

Maybe it's just what I'm looking for (games and movies) but it seems like this years BF/CM has been extremely tame...not seen many standouts.

I'm about to move to a new apartment and needed a TV, blu-ray and router, and a few other things. I hate spending money, but ended up paying $1200. On the other hand, I saved $700. Good timing, I guess - very lucky.

I figured you just needed some sorta cradle to put your eye in and maybe some extra heavy duty curtains to keep the neighbors from seeing all the light you produce

I know, right? Between an all-seeing eye and that palantir, what on middle earth would Sauron need internet for?

Oh, wait. PORN.

Eh, apparently Mrs. Sauron has to keep up with Downton Abbey reruns on PBS.org.

My favorite FF game. Actually, the only one I like... But damn, stop putting it on everything. Unless you're going to make a graphically updated version, which I highly doubt. I mean, we've had emulators for a loooong time.

Yes, I was thinking exactly this.

"..everything that sets Guild Wars 2 apart from other MMOs."

twitchy rock paper scissors combat
required long jumping puzzles in dungeons
Large group PVP (WVW) neglected
Some of the most dispised lore NPC's in gaming.

That said, it is pretty. I like how there is no kill stealing and you don't have to be grouped, only do enough damage to loot open world elites and up. I liked WvW, but it seems to be the devs least favorite thing to improve.
You forgot tons and tons of timesinks. You want a new sword skin? Be prepared to commit to hundreds of hours of grinding for the materials. Want that cool looking dungeon set? Spend weeks trying to find people willing to run the dungeon only to fail miserably because 2 members of the party never learned how to dodge. GW2 was the greatest bait and switch of all time. It was billed as "the MMO that respects your time" simply because it claimed that leveling didn't require grinding, and that there was no gear treadmill. What they failed to mention is that they replaced those timesinks with others instead. And then they later added the gear treadmill anyway by introducing "fractal" dungeons that are literally an endless gear treadmill.

I'd agree with some of that. For the endgame player, GW2 can be just as much of a grind as any other MMO. Getting my relic shield took months, for example. And fractals are a pain in the neck if you don't have a decent group. And additionally, at least back when I was playing, pickup dungeon groups were often really poorly geared and didn't have much of a clue, and the worst players blamed everyone else for their own failings.

That being said, I did enjoy the ride to endgame in GW2 more than any other MMO to date. So relaxing, and so fun. You just have to remember not to get dragged in to the endgame scene. Actually, WvWvW is much more fun as an endgame activity - I had a blast playing that.

I'm with Kxmode on this one. I've gotten waaay more entertainment value playing GW2 than the fifty bucks I spent on it. I like exploration, so just climbing up to the various Views and checking out all the hard work and polish that went into this game is worth the fifty bucks alone.

Same here. I was used to playing Japanese MMOs, so GW2 felt like being on vacation. So much fun. And I too really enjoyed getting world completion, seeing every last corner of every single zone.

Only problem was, after a year I had pretty much beaten the game - had my Ascended stuff, Legendary weapon and so on. At that point I had nothing else left to do. A shame the expansion wasn't out then, really.

Sad about about Romo, I hope that doesn't sink the Cowboys for this season. So many upsets last week, great week to watch but a tough week for pick em. I was at a house party on Sunday, guy had his receiver hooked up to a projector outside and it was a riot. Lots of upset gamblers hahah.

Yeah, a shame about Romo. The Cowboys aren't my favorite team but it's a shame when injuries decide a season.

Kind of enjoyed seeing Manziel win a game yesterday. I'm not sure why. I'm wondering if he might do OK in the longer term.

What Windows Phone community? Microsoft abandoning its hardware partner didn't exactly send a positive signal to the ecosystem as a whole so its no surprise. There just isn't room for Windows Phone and it doesn't really offer anything that other phone platforms don't already do better.

I have to say that the Microsoft Store is some of the sorriest shit I've ever come across. I spent some time looking at releasing an app I'm working on and concluded it wasn't worth the effort. The amount of fraudulent apps is appalling, the search is a joke and the availability of quality core apps is very hit and miss.

I was about to post the same thing - what community? I use an Android phone, but my kids have Windows phones. The apps I find most useful, and which are free on Android or iPhone, don't exist for Windows. And it's getting worse, not better.

I wonder, would vegans have some excuse about not wanting to eat lab-grown meat, either, or could that be a whole new market? I think they could make a profit off of that 15 per kilo ($10.51 per lb.) concoction right now if they properly marketed it as cruelty-free, guilt-free, whatever-free meat.

The future of food is vegetarianism.

And in that future you will have imitation hamburger meat that is made from plant proteins... Go nuts!

I'm vegetarian and would have absolutely no problem eating artifically grown meat, beyond any health concerns. Then again, I do eat fish and sometimes catch dinner myself.

I like meat - I just don't like abattoirs. I'm a veterinarian and our training included several weeks' work experience in slaughterhouses, so I know exactly how they work. Eight hour shifts on the line standing next to the spinal saw kind of blunted my appetite for a nice juicy steak.

If someone hasn't played this already, they definitely should now that it's completely free. Best leveling experience I have ever had in an RPG, and I've played a lot of them.

At endgame, you have to be a bit careful. WvWvW can really be very fun, but I found Fractals to be very annoying. Some of the pickup groups have really terrible players with terrible gear, and those players always seem to whine like hell.

But overall, if you haven't played this, I would DEFINITELY try it out.

You mean Get On Up? If so, yeah, that was surprisingly good. I enjoyed the hell out of it. James Brown was my pop's fave artist so I grew up listening to him a lot.

I used to live in Harlem, and when he died they had his body lying in state at the Apollo Theater. There was a line clear around the block to see him.

Okay, time to find the best deal on this title.

I found it on cdkeys.com .. legit site or not?

Bit late in replying, but I got my copy on GMG:

http://www.greenmangaming.com/s/us/en/pc/games/action/witcher-3-wild-hunt/#b

$29.99, perfectly legit.

Oops, just saw you got that info already - I would just wait a couple days until they get a new batch of keys.

Loved the first one. Really got my money's worth out of it. My only problem with it was by the end, you were basically doing the same 3-4 spells over and over, and your melee suffered for heading into combat, getting hit by spells, poison, explosive barrels, etc., so it felt like they were gimped a bit.

I get you on this, but it could be argued that D&D and all other tabletop RPGs that are the basis for games like this have the same flaw. At level 1, wizards are almost useless, and one good bite from a giant rat can take them out permanently. But by level 20, they rule the world, and can take out an armorclad paladin with a flick of the wrist.

Wizards, eh. Can't live with them at low levels, can't live without them at higher levels.
